The sixth “Theatrical Web” festival which will allow theater lovers in Russia and around the world to watch performances online opens on October 19.

This year the festival is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of famous writer Nikolay Gogol and for the first time will present only Gogol’s dramas and musical performances of Moscow and St. Petersburg theaters. Among them there will be avant garde plays and new original interpretations of well-known literary works by the writer.

The festival’s program will include productions by Moscow’s Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater and Pyotr Fomenko’s Workshop, and the St .Petersburg Chamber Opera Company.

There has been an increase in interest in theater recently, along with the number of people with web access. Thus, this year’s “Theatrical Web” was transferred to a new format of online broadcasting. In previous festivals it was available only in the RealVideo format which required the installation of extra software. The sixth festival, however, employs the more user-friendly Adobe Flash technology.

The festival will run through to October 27. To see the performances, you just need to type cultu.ru in your browser.
