For those visiting the city of Tomsk in the southwest of Siberia’s Federal District this summer will be met by a floral surprise – gardeners have been working for weeks planting a huge city emblem made of flowers.
Tomsk’s emblem is a green heraldic shield with a silvery grey galloping horse. At the bottom of the shield is a dark red ribbon emblazoned with the motto: “Through labor and knowledge”. Three kinds of flowers were used to “color” the emblem: grey cinerarias, green stonecrop and vinous horsemint.
The flower-bed is intended to remain whole summer.
