All the gold statuettes have now been handed out at the 81st Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

The British film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, a rags-to-riches story set in India, bagged eight statuettes, including Best Picture and Best Director for Danny Boyle.

The Oscar for Leading Actress went to Kate Winslet for ‘The Reader’, while Sean Penn picked up the Leading Actor award for his performance in ‘Milk’.

Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental overdose last year, won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘The Dark Knight’. Meanwhile, Penelope Cruz won the gong for Best Supporting Actress for her part in ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’.
