Forget about sitting relaxed. Get ready to dance to the shaking dancing rhythms of jazz and Latina!
Chris Washburne, a gifted trombonist, is one of those rare musicians who mixes different styles and breaks cultural borders.
The New York Times names him “one of most creatively inventive and fruitful musicians.” Washburne has always been breaking the borders of musical genres. Even in the beginning of his musical career, he knew he couldn’t choose between jazz or classics, but continuously and consistently tested his skills in various styles.
Trombonist-leaders are a rarity, and the list of Washburne’s achievements only proves this rule. He worked with great musicians and celebrated musical bands, including the Duke Ellington orchestra, Walter Thompson’s band, RMM All Star Salsa Band, and others. However, working with “classics” was no less comfortable for the musician than accompanying frontier avant-garde musicians, such as Anthony Braxton.
Washburne has long been researching music and ethnic styles, and learning to combine them in beautiful harmony. He looked for new tunes in Zambia and Cuba, sometimes even spending months in different countries. This remarkable trombonist and talented composer enjoys praise from the most demanding critics and jazz journalists, and his recordings have been recognized as top Latino records.
In Moscow, Washburne will give a concert on August 25, together with celebrated Russian ethno-jazz master Oleg Kireev.
An instrumentalist and saxophonist, Kireev performs jazz classics and his own creations. He has won numerous top prizes at festivals and competitions, and through the years has earned a reputation of a man with a unique saxophone sound, outstanding vocal skills and overall as an enthusiastic performer.
Light graffiti: the art of freezing timeLight drawing, freezing light or light graffiti – all it takes is imagination, a camera and a small lamp. This is all you need to create a mysterious photo work, picturing light in motion. |
3D Russian art at the airportWorks of Russian frontier avant-garde artists will appear in the capital’s Domodedovo airport without leaving the museum walls. Instead they will be replaced with 3D-reproductions projected on eight big screens. |
