I believe these statues were meant to guard the cave while the occupants were out since there is nothing mnore frightening than the maternal housewife.

Where did they get the ivory in Europe 35.000 years ago?
No elephants, hippo's or walrusses in Germany.
Also there was no trade worth mentioning back then, I reckon.
Very peculiar.
