Family values and fitness in Swedish art

For some reason, the word-combination “Swedish family” has long been provoking laughter in Russia, being synonymous with relationship triangles and free love. Aren’t all modern families like that, though?
Swedish artists have teamed up with Russian counterparts to find an answer together.
The result of their creative research is currently on display at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition entitled “The Swedish Family” features two dozen artists and is part of the Third Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

While some try to track down the evolution of modern family values, others are sharing their fantasies on a completely different subject matter, such as popular gymnastic equipment, commonly known in Russia as the “Swedish wall-bar”.
The extravagant Russian artist Andrey Bartenev has unveiled his version of the versatile wall-bar which has taken up almost the whole space of the museum on Petrovka.
Both Swedish-inspired exhibitions are available until October 25
