It’s been less than a week since the Russian version of iTunes Store opened and it is already experiencing problems. XXX content has plagued the service with raunchy pictures and offering dubious services.
Banners leading users to pornographic websites appeared in the Russian iTunes store on December 5. Users trying to download foreign films instead were flashed with pictures of semi-nude women selling sex toys, porn and offering escort services, Wired magazine reports.
The bug appeared when a user tried to access the “films in different languages” section of Russian iTunes. Now the section can not be accessed.
Experts believe this was a mistake by the iTunes developers who apparently left a temporary placeholder links in the program that looked somewhat like xx.xx.xx, and are blaming iTunes management for the cock up.
“In general, linking to sites you control yourself, to domains you own, is a much better [placeholder] practice to ensure content isn’t shady or ends up being shady,” Lookout Mobile Security’s lead iOS developer Jorgen Tjerno told Wired.
The problem has already been solved and there should be no risqué pictures on Russian iTunes.
