The fact that an increasing number of companies are establishing in Russia or returning to the country means a sign of confidance.

This food is poison. I have changed my diet and lost more than 100 pounds. This whole country is full of poison food! Watch out for the high fructose corn syrup and trans fats. We forced them to label the food, it was making us so sick. I hope you have that labeling because they will feed you poison if you allow it. High Fructose Corn Syrup is really poison. Google Dr. Lustig from USCSF. They like to export when we have found them out, like when Clinton made a deal with Big Tobacco...to sell cigarettes in China. I almosed died and have insulin resistance from eating this human poison machine. I used to eat a sausage buscuit for breakfast from Mc Donalds every day...salt, fat and sugar is what they feed us, and then we are fat and ugly and sick. You are fools to allow these people to poison your people. Their coffee is rather good, though...and coffee apparently prevents Alzheimers, so they say. I don't even know who to believe about anything anymore. I shouldn't say this but its my duty.

Well, Thanks for westernizing and selling out to American big businessmen who love to export Russian wealth back to their homeland via FAT FOODS. We get fat, they get rich. "I'm Lovin It" yeah! We need their ponchiki??????? No! how about making Soviet Ponchiki back? That is a better idea and atleast you won't die of a heart attack from eating them. Thank YOU RUSSIA! My Wonderful Homeland! You are changing face. I lived in America and returned, but it seems those fat food coffers have followed me. By allowing the face of our great country and culture to be Americanized with these awful gaudy neon sign, people destroying, lazy meals... You have disgusted me to the point I want to leave this country. I will join the others that are leaving Russia because I don't want to live in America which you certainly want this country to become. Bye bye....

Artyiom, Neither McDonalds nor Dunkin mean "westernizing". They are just two American companies which make very successful products. Spain, France and Italy are also Western countries and neither burgers nor donuts were part of the traditional Mediterranean diet. But, I repeat, they are two products in the market that consumers can buy or not. The problem is that you think all consumers but you lack any intelligence. They have the same as you and they can choose the same as you do. As I said, it is a sign of confidance in Russian economic recovery that an increasing number of international companies are opening new shops and creating jobs in the Russian Federation. Many more will arrive during the next years as there are hundreds of franchises.

But I agree with both of you that this food that looks so funny is dangerous on the middle and long term with so much cholesterol, and children have to receive education about it. They want it because it looks funny and it is easy to eat. It is very attractive for children, and if they don´t receive an education, first of all from their own family, they will ask for burgers and donuts like candies. In Spain there have been burger chains for 25 years and traditional meals are still prevalent, but that doesn´t mean that once or twice a month anybody can go to a fast food chain for a change. Perhaps it will be needed preventive health advertisement the same way as we have for tobacco or alcohol.... I don´t agree with your reference to lack of Quality as I don´t have any doubt that two international chains of those characteristics which are followed by people who hate them, have a quality process better than the food offered by most of the national bars and a great part of national restaurants. They have much more pressure from different consumer groups than the next bar in the corner which usually has the food in worse conditions and causes more immediate health problems...

Actually, the concept of Fast Food is a Western one that developed after WWII by entrepreneurs who thought it would be a great idea to have the same meal everywhere for terms of familiarity. The fact is, it is Westernizing! No matter how you dodge it, these are American companies that are cut throat business practitioners who pay big money to make money off of other nations. They then bring this wealth back to the USA. That is fact. They'll argue they help society, but this is false. The job market they create is just paid with % of money they took in their sales. Quality? You are telling me that MacDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and Donkin Donuts has quality? Their products are full of GMO's, Chemicals, preservatives, and they are mass produced (not donuts as they are baked goods) and frozen in packets. The meats used are scrap meat that used to go to dog food, but now they fill it with Ammonia to kill bacteria hence making this meat safe for human consumption, according to FDA, but they have never tested it. Quality violations have bee noted at endless MacDonald's chains for not chaining fryer fats. USA has endless Ecoli breakouts due to fast food chains filth. I am not assuming people lack intelligence, they prove it themselves by eating there. With the government increasing taxes by 20% and no pay increases, both husband and wife work and no time for home cook meals leads everyone to linger into a fast food joint. You are telling me the quality of a sit down restaurant is no different than fast food? I worked at a real restaurant. There are similarities, but there are no where near the amount of health risks. Go to a Sushi Bar or a Steak house and tell me that it is the same. If a company sells products that are harmful, they are fined and deemed irresponsible. Their products are recalled and/or closed down. It is proven that these companies coming into Russia have bad products. It is negligence to sell these products. Yet nothing stops them.

to ARTYOM: You are not clever. You want Soviet Ponchiki, which were prepared by dirty hands of Tetya Masha in one-month-in frier smelly oil! You are welcome to railway-stations in Moscow. On some of them You can find the kiosks with this so-called "ponchiki". try to taste them and 50/50 You will be in hospital. The Dunkin' coffee is one of the best coffee in world. The donuts is perfect. Of course if You will eat only donuts and burgers You will be fat and thick. Think! Think! Think! and all will be good. And believe me, to cry about westernizing Russia is bad. I see You want to leave Russia - do it...

Artyom January 21, 2010, 11:53 quote

@ Andrey, I see you are offended over your precious donuts. However I never stated eating ponchiki from a street vendor was safe, did I. That's only your assumptions as you postulate about how wonderful Dunkin' Donuts are and how wonderful their coffee is. The fact they are selling GMO, Trans-fat, preservative soaked food that is known to cause heart disease, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, obesity, diabetes, among many other diseases. They aren't so perfect are they! And you say I'm not clever. This doesn't stop multi billion dollar operations from entering Russia and selling this food. Russia isn't America and shouldn't be that way. Russia doesn't need these restaurants to be free and develop. Westernization is BAD!!! It is a selfish society based on looks, self gratification, plastic surgery, sex, consumerism, and big living. Watching traditional Russian society, the language, family values, traditional cuisine, and everything else imaginable going out the window just to be more American is not good. That is in itself idiotic declaration that Russia has no value and offers nothing to the world. The only thing Russia has proven is its willingness to sell itself for a dollar. You are the exact type people who sicken me, basing things in the world on assumption. Remember, there is a difference between Westernizing and Modernizing. Russians could easily make their own fat box quick food, but obviously they prefer to send their wealth to America along with the other percentage of people who ran there. Even Americans have had ENOUGH of these places.

Enrique January 22, 2010, 01:54 quote

Artyiom, I repeat to you that that those products doesn´t mean any "Westernizing" as they are just manufactured by several U.S. companies. They are not traditional food from any Western European nation. The opposite happens with pizzas, spaguetti or canneloni in Italy, or with paella in Spain. Do you think really that Russians shouldn´t eat any pizza or paella because they are "Western"? in fact much more traditional from the West than burgers or donuts.

Artyom January 25, 2010, 12:07 quote

@Enrique. I am talking about the companies when I am talking about Westernizing. I am talking about big American Companies siphoning out wealth and injecting poison. And for those who think I am a villager and don't know what is Dunkin Donuts, I lived in America 10 years and I know what they are. There is another company there Krispy Kreme who makes tastier ones, but no less fattening and disgusting. There is more to it then a successful product. There are endless places that sell tastier donuts that won't give you a heart attack or make you bed ridden to the point you need a crane and whale sling to get you out of bed and into the hospital. We don't see Russians in that condition because these places don't exist here in numbers yet. So telling me that Russians can't eat pizza? Are you purposefully trying to miss the point? That is a cuisine. Do you think American Pizza Delivery is real Italian Pizza? They aren't necessarily successful, but large quantity frozen food soaked in preservatives to serve a large population all at once. Quick food for lazy people. Now they are increasing work here in Russia and taxes with no pay increases. So people will have even less family time. At the same time these big companies are coming in from the USA to our markets. To state Russia isn't Westernizing is being blind. I am 100% sure you never spent more than a vacation here in Russia that lasted longer than a month. Nor your knowledge in the Russian language and added time in America to see the things like Married with Children from Fox TV going to Russia's TNT Счастливы Вместе. It is absolutely the same. Another example, Cash for Clunkers is a political program in the US to bring in used cars. Russia now follows the same scam erasing a used car market for lower income families all to help big business.

I have my doubts that America is part of the West...Do you really think that France, Italy and Spain have the exactly the same diet as America?
