The European Union has welcomed Russia's decision to lift a ban on meat imports from Poland, which will come into force next week when the deal is signed.

Russian authorities banned Polish raw meat, vegetable and fruit imports in November 2005 over alleged health and safety violations.

It caused Poland to veto negotiations on a new partnership agreement between Russia and the EU.

According to Russian Agriculture Minister Aleksey Gordeev, “We have a complete understanding and agreement on the resumption of agricultural product deliveries. Both sides guarantee the quality of Polish products to be imported in Russia.”

This deal signals a major rapprochement between the two countries.

Less than a month since Donald Tusk assumed office as Polish Prime-Minister, his words are already turning into reality.
