Gazprom eyes the Pacific with new pipeline

Gazprom has begun construction of a new gas link to the Pacific, allowing it to expand its liquefied gas business and tap new markets. The pipeline will run from Sakhalin island to Vladivostok.

By 2015, Russia will have completed gas pipeline infrastructure encirclement of Europe and will be playing Europe against China for this commodity. The US will also be running out of gas supply from West Africa (a very unpredictable source to date and getting worst ) and Angola has gone to the Chinese. It appears evident that Russia is seeing the US as a ripening market for its natural gas / LNG - and conversely the US is seeing Russia as a viable stable long-term source of gas. I would think that by 2015, Russia gas supplied to the US will be sourced from both the Ob region, via trans-Russia pipelines (which will serve to increase Sakhalin supplies to East Asia), but also talks will be in train to come straight over the top and LNG trains will be plying the Arctic on the shortest route to a thristy market.
