Kamaz, Russia’s biggest truck maker, plans to set up a joint venture for production of its vehicles in China in 2011.

According to Ashot Arutyunyan, marketing and advertisement director at Kamaz, the talks on Russia-Chinese partnership have long been held and within the next year Russia may see first jointly produced vehicles.

“We’ve been developing with our China partners the project for a joint production of Kamaz trucks in China and a distribution network for almost a year.”

“If we come to an agreement and take all necessary steps in time, car production may start in 2011.”

The new company is set to produce at least 10 thousand trucks per year, which will satisfy the requirements of Chinese legislation.

Arutyunyan also said that China is ready to invest around $13 million in the joint venture, which includes the construction of 8 trade and service centers.

“We, in turn, will have to set up production of Kamaz trucks from scratch”, he added.

If all the plans are successfully realized, then Kamaz will export its China-made cars to Latin and Central America, Arutyunyan concludes. However, the decision would still need Daimler's approval, which has an 11% stake in Kamaz.
