American fast food giant McDonald's plans to open 45 restaurants in Russia in 2010, investing around $3 million in each.

The plan was announced  by Jim Skinner, the company's CEO and vice chairman, at a press conference in Moscow dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the company's work in Russia.

Skinner said Russia would be one of the priority regions for the company's investment, since the market has been showing the top rates of growth for fast-food in the world.

“When we develop restaurants around the world, we look at the markets that can give the fastest return on investment, and Russia is undoubtedly one of those.”

In his interview to Vedomosti published on February 1, Skinner was very upbeat, talking about the progress McDonald’s has made in the Russian market.

“Trying to describe the corporation’s achievements in Russia in one word, I’d say these were extraordinary. It took us about 12 – 14 years to negotiate the opening of the first McDonald’s restaurant in Moscow…However, today we have 245 restaurants in Russia, where 950,000 clients are served every day. The number of McDonald’s visitors in Russia is very high compared to the world average: Three out of the ten most-visited McDonald’s restaurants are in Russia."

And talking about the company’s plans, James Skinner said keeping the same growth rate would be a priority in the near future.

“Our chain grew by 12% last year. We plan to open 45 restaurants in 2010, and to retain this pace of growth is our goal for the coming three to five years.”

Artyom is RIGHT. Avoid McDonald's like a plague. In America their products are made from genetically modified and IRBG infused beef. RUSSIA STAY AWAY FROM THIS POISON!! Don't let Russian kids eat this. Or we will see Russia become as fat and obese as America and other countries where such junk food is consumed. Cook your own natural, healthy food. Don't let this mega billion foreign entity which cares NOTHING for the health of their people or any people in the world, poison your citizens. Putin and Medvedev should NOT allow this garbage to take hold in Russia!!!

Recently I made a gentle psychological study of US Mc Donald way to influence the propagation of the American Way of Life, all over the World. With Marlboro and Coca-Cola they did a better job than hundreds US military divisions will have done. How good it is for mankind; it is not up to me to answer. Personally, I don't mind going to a McDo; in Orenburg because the two, already there are very clean, kind and the food is good (Beside I have friends working there). The argument of my previous comment was not related to the service given by that US company but concerned the psychological aspect and the sincerity toward the Russian people of such an invasion. (Money cannot be men's unequalled value)...Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

Artyom, you and your friends doesn´t have any obligation to go to any burger chain....but I am sure 4 of those 8 that told you that didn´t like burgers will eat them during the next months, hehe. I agree that tourists should taste traditional Russian food when in Russia, but for different reasons many want to eat a burger anywhere they go...In Spain the same fast food chain is going to invest 45 million euros during the next months.
