Starwood Hotels has announced the Hotel National will mark its debut in the Moscow market.

As part of its Luxury Collection Hotels repertoire the Moscow hotel joins after extensive renovations. Built in 1903 by famous Russian architect, Alexander Ivanov, the Hotel National has been an historic landmark for more than a century, overlooking the Kremlin and Red Square.

It will join more than 70 other globally renowned hotels in major cities as part of Starwood’s Luxury Collection Hotels chain.

Roeland Vos, President of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa & Middle East said the Hotel National will become a part of an elite chain.

“With the opening of Hotel National, A Luxury Collection Hotel, we proudly introduce The Luxury Collection brand to Moscow. This hotel is a true expression of its destination, making it a perfect addition to The Luxury Collection’s portfolio of spectacular hotels and resorts.”

The Hotel National has undergone an extensive renovation, restoring the hotel to its original splendor that will uphold the hotel’s legacy as a landmark destination. The rooms feature exclusive furniture inspired by the hotel’s nineteenth century décor, spacious bathing and dressing areas, with the hotel’s historical suites adorned with authentic and rare Russian antiquities. Many of the hotel’s guest rooms boast exceptional city views, including panoramas of the Kremlin.

Further renovations are scheduled for 2010, to add parking, fitness facilities and restaurants as well as a redesign of Hotel National’s renowned Alexandrovsky bar and Moskovski restaurant. The Hotel National, restoration will be completed by the end of 2012.
