The construction launch ceremony for the Nord Stream pipeline, which will supply Russian gas to Germany through the Baltic sea, has taken place at Vyborg.
A long awaited window to Europe: the start of construction of the Nord Stream pipeline, which will supply 25% of Europe’s external gas needs within 2 years.
Unlike other consumers of Russian gas – Europe’s concern is not the price but ensuring the volumes are there. Although demand has slumped, the EU expects it to recover to pre-crisis levels in about 4 years.
Aleksandr Medvedev, Director General of Gazprom Export, says demand is certain.
“For all the natural gas volumes destined for Nord Stream we have either contracts or binding agreement. Of course sometimes there is a long way to go from a binding agreement to a full contract but that's not the case with us.”
The first leg of Nord Stream is being laid out at sea, with several ships working simultaneously towards Russia. The company expects to complete the project on time and within budget.
The financing of the project is $9.86 billion: the first phase complete, the second to be raised this summer according to Dr Rainer Seele, Chairman of Wintershall
“The financing for the first line we have already settled with the financial markets. And the second pipeline – the financing we will do over the summer.”
To put that in perspective, Nord Stream will spend up to $17 million each day on the construction of every 2.5 kilometres, to be completed by September of 2011.
Portovaya compression station will the start of the long journey for Russia’s gas on the way to Europe, with the project becoming a flagship for the new generation of gas infrastructure projects.

Cash for clunkers powers into top gearIt’s a month since cash for clunkers programme was launched in Russia and strong demand has already taken 85% of the planned supply of new Lada cars. |
In fact Oil bussines is close to be gone, Arabs knows that and Russians too. Only gas is not simle to diver so quikly yet, that why is still good to invest. Gasolin, will be exchanged with alcohol and Diesel with any flauer OIL. All the countries around the world today artificialy keep traditional carbohydrate-mineraloil technology in place instead of clean, eco-biofuel, Energy CLEAN & RENEWABLE technology, because of hidden taxes in fuel or any energy component, in some countries up to 85% of their real price.....!!!! It will be disaster to Some monopoly Energy coutries if other coutries will be energy independent. The global strtegic energy influance and coraleting together econo-industry dependance will end-up suddenly. If biofuel would be used widely there would not be any Exon-valdese accident and like that others, instead it would be natural biodegradation, but that is to cheep and uncontolled for Energy corporations.
PART 1 As being Polish I view this subject copletly diffierent from majority. Russia is great place to do the bussines about their natural sources for gas and oil & etc. Polish ship-yards are closed because of not enough "quaiet deal" between Azerbrjgan, Georgia, Ukraine and Poland; about gas and oil delivery from Poti to Odessa, and Odessa Brody to Poland and Europe. Polish ship yards was promised to build gas and oil tankers, that why thay are closed with Brussels hands. Claean for Russia. Remember this, that Mr. Lech Kaczynski Polish former President was major opponent to Georian and Russian S. Ossetian conflict, because he forsight that is about Russian monopoly on Gas and Oil from former Russian Republics (place of Russian Market & involvment). Russia, shold've NOT stayed in harbor Poti, according to Mr. Sarkozi. agreement with Russians. Why is that , that Russians do stay, when conflict according to them was stabilized and finished...? It only proves Poilsh Plans to divert Russian energy supplies (Baltic Pipe-N. Streem) and counterpart them on other side.

Part 3 Please remember there is a lot of chem. and biological warfare damped on the bottom of the Baltic see from IIWW: Germany, Russia, America & UK. Some of these containers are open and Polish, German and Sweedish Fisherman know this subject very well....... Russia did Not disclosure any possible ways to avoid it nor the way of treating it. Please provide publicly protocols and codes how Russian emploees on many leves will treat them (Chemical & Biological warfare)....???
