Rostelecom posts FY 2009 net profit of 3.456 billion roubles

Russian long distance fixed line communications provider, Rostelecom, has posted a FY 2009 net profit of 3.456 billion roubles under IFRS.
The bottom line is down 71.6% year on year with FY OIBDA down 12.5% to 12.491 billion roubles, with FY Revenues down 1.7% to 65.51 billion roubles.
Rostelecom says revenue from domestic long distance calls fell 11.5% year on year with long distance international calls into Russia falling 6.2%, reflecting the weaker global economy and the migration of long distance calls to mobile networks, as well as increased domestic competition from Russian mobile and inter regional providers nearing completion of their own networks.
More positively the company noted that data transmission revenues increased 65.8% to more than 9 billion roubles with its share of the wholesale internet services market increasing to 36%.
