Consumer prices have risen 9.1% in Russia since the beginning of the year – that's compared with inflation of 6.3% in the same period in 2007.

According to Rosstat, the fastest rise in the last week was for rice, up 1.3%, and salt, up 1.1%.

While meat and bread prices rose, those of dairy products, fruit and vegetables fell.

The government has not changed its forecast for inflation this year of up to 10.5%.
