The Farnborough Airshow has drawn to a close in southern England with Russian giants Sukhoi and MiG reporting successful sales of their jets. This year's event was the largest in its 60-year history with over 1500 exhibits from 40 countries.

Sukhoi managing director Mikhail Pogosyan said the promotion of the superjet-100 was the company’s main task at Farnborough. He added that the task was “successfully fulfilled”, with the company receiving its first order from a recognised western airline, Icelandair.

The superjet is a joint venture between Sukhoi and Italy's Alenia. More than 50% of the plane has been designed by foreign companies like Boeing and Snecma.

Sukhoi representatives said it has become a globally respected maker of passenger aircraft.

On Tuesday more details emerged about the MiG-29 deal with India, which is to be the company’s first full-export package. Besides the planes, MiG will supply weapons, training and support.

Aleksandr Mikheev, deputy CEO at Rosoboronexport, told RT the entire cycle of the deal should be supervised by the Russian industry and its producers. The Indian MiG delivery date and other big deals are expected at the Dubai Airshow in November.

Kamov helicopter company director general Sergei Mikheev said it plans to sell 120 Ka-52 assault helicopters on the world market, alongside domestic supplies.
