Hydropower is the way to go first. Wind is next. Georthermal has some potential. Biomass, forget about it. You will use more energy than you get back from burning it, and might ruin your soil. Why risk that in a northern area like Russia. Don't forget nuclear, but remember that you'll have to guard the waste forever. We will need schools, police, hospitals and other institutions forever, so why not waste watchers. The military can guard it, until world peace breaks out in a few million years.

The attractiveness of the renewable energy is that every nation can access to the energy resources within its teritory. Wind, sun, biomass etc.. are the possible sources of energy which all nations equaly have. If the rest of the world start using the renewable energy and reduce the purchasing the amount of oil and gas from Russia, where the income for Russia come from? Russia really have to find the way to develop the other industry or will be the same as back in 1980-1990s.

But don't do it as we are just doing it in Germany with solar and wind amassed all over the country. You don't save power stations, you only reduce the time they are needed. You even need need additional power stations to regulate the sometimes swinging power input e.g. of wind power, you need new High tension voltage lines. The reason: Sometimes e.g. all wind power is blowing with an output of 20.000 MW and then the other day, synchronised by the natur, only some hundred MW. You need a huge reserve in conventional power stations and power lines. All these effects are not considered economically when judging the rentability of EEG. But also without this I have to state that in these dimensions it's a huge waste of money for only a very limited economic and ecologic effect. And to increase the nonsense:the rules established by the EC (dealing with CO- 2 certificates) and the national EEG-program (solar and wind) are incompatible and over determined (described in detail by Prof. Sinn) with the effect that all the billions spent in Germany for solar and wind are useless EC wide (only on paper in Germany there is a reduction of the use of fossile fuels), over the installed parallel trade with CO-2 certificates no single ton of fossile fuels is reduced EC wide through all solar and wind efforts of Germany. In Germany no one officially wants to talk about this and all our free media don't care about this theme. Don't ask me why?
