Mobile operator MTS has become the first Russian company to make it into the world’s top 100 brands. Russia’s biggest cell-phone company was ranked 89th in the list of most valuable brands – compiled by Millward Brown Optimor for Financial Time
MTS, estimated to be worth around $US 8 billion, was also placed 9th among mobile operators globally.
Google tops the list again this year, with a brand currently worth $US 86.1 billion.
According to the rating authors, MTS’s success was largely due to a simpler marketing scheme and successful rebranding.
After the MTS logo was changed, the company's capitalisation jumped 250 percent.
Other valuable Russian brands listed were beer brewer Baltika – in 15th place in the beer category – and Lukoil – 8th in motor fuels.
