Russia's new Superjet passenger plane is likely to be one of the stars of the Moscow air show which starts next week. The government hopes its appearance will earn more orders from foreign as well as Russian airlines.
I studied Russian passenger planes for few years and they were dinosaurs, the present ones are no better than the old ones, as Russian manufacture start implementing new technology way after their western counter parts, with Interior decor and design shabby and peasant like, vestige of Soviet Heritage. Their latest ones should be cosigned to the scrap heap as well, The TU-334 has been phased out of production without selling even one, the Yaks are gone, the Tu-204 /214 are just not any where close to the Western one, and they be flops, The Tu 330, and cargo plane with only hope of being market in third world, The IL 96 production has been halted, only will be made for cargo, being Aviation Donkey is where the talent lies, The powers above must try to funnel some of the military technology in particular on board radar etc , and a cruising speed of 900Km/h, with interior design for disabled, mothers with baby etc and more comfortable seating , The most promising market which is South East Asia and doubling every year has been completely ignored, with no presence there, for example Malaysia has trebled its civil aviation and is going to increase again, Indonesia being an island nation has a huge number of aircraft, there is not a single Russian presence there and the websites of these manufactures is in accordance with the rest of the characters, the main instrument of Air craft Sales, is ease of finance, which is no where to be seen and not in place at all, some of these people running the companies are charters out of Gogol's Dead Soul, with most of them being a well dressed Nozdryeff. They have the technology, they sit on it and when becomes obsolete they use it,

Well a big thank you to Putin and Medvedev for this one! This and more financing of the whole aircraft ownership cycle is what is necessary, to get this business growing at a rate sufficient to capture both the domestic and international markets. This needs to be followed smoothly with the next aircraft offering, to build sustainability into the Russia aviation industry. Russia with solid reserves, in a low liquidity market, has one of the greatest opportunities to be selective and put money behind enterprises that have the correct business plan and marketing. Other nations simply cannot compete with us in terms of cash in hand. There are other opportunities in the aviation market, e.g. in terms of avionics and high bypass ratio turbofans. We need do a full market analysis as with the Superjet and identify real business opportunities to be addressed in these areas. The certification costs, make a barrier to entry for many, so with our size, we have natural advantage. Some of these opportunities, for strategic reasons, will be me too offerings, but we must make sure our balance is biased to areas where we see advantage through market opportunity, innovation and playing to our strengths. Aviation is a key strategic industry for us, we need make it into a key business orientated success! Well done, this is a great start!
