Rolls-Royce Group, the world`s second-biggest maker of jet engines, has opened a new Russian office in St. Petersburg to supply shipbuilders.
The company`s marine division has up to $US 7.8 million worth of contracts to supply parts to Russian shipyard companies.
The St.Petersburg office is to be the third in Russia, as the company already has bases in Moscow and Vladivostok.
The staff for the new office have already been recruited, according to the RBC business daily. Rolls-Royce reportedly intends to open a service centre as well.
It is thought that the Russian shipyards’ demand for foreign components is likely to grow.
Rolls Royce has said the demand from Russia is driven by rising production of tankers, platforms and supply vessels.
