Yarovit Motors and Mikhail Prokhorov’s Onexim group will present a new natural gas car in December with sales to begin in 2012.

The new Russian city car will run on natural gas and fuel and sell for the attractive price of $10 thousand. Assembled from ready made modules it will be safe and nature friendly, says Yarovit Motors President, Andrey Biryukov.

“The car will weigh 700 kg which is drastic contrast to similar vehicles. That's due to a simplified construction and use of basalt fiber and an aluminum frame. The car will consume only 3.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.”

Its developers believe the future of the car industry lies with hybrid cars – rather than purely electric models.

“Electric cars are damaging to the ecology. Electricity doesn't live in the socket – you need to burn fuel or use nuclear energy,” adds Biryukov.

The project's backers are offering a new business model to produce and distribute cars.

“We are not planning to invest billions of dollars in huge and core production. We are planning to start with the 10 thousand car per year and then due to the franchise exercise, selling the technology and the components to various regions where the customers are based,” says Dmitry Razumov, General Director of Onexim Group.

In just two years from now we will see whether this new vision has become reality.
