Dangerous Destinations That was a possible title for this blog back when I presented my proposal to RT upon my return from West Africa. But after a lot of thought, we changed it to Dangerous Dispatches because, let’s face it, I can’t be traveling all the time. Eventually one must go home for at least a few weeks. Any more time spent doing the same-old-same-old however, and I begin to feel the...

I went to Moscow to research my novel back in 2007. I'll never forget flying into the airport and seeing the huge white letters on top of the building: MOSKVA Scary, thrilling, awe-inspiring. And yes -- that experience made it into the novel. I look forward to reading about your experiences there. I can't wait to go back.
If someone over there in Russia tells you to jump in to the Barents Sea I wouldn't listen to that old Slovanic maxim...I think I would go with the newer American one... 'Look before you leap'! That water has got to be pretty darn cold right now. You might land on an iceberg. Can't wait to hear more from the Kremlin. Post more pictures. Also...see if you can get an interview with Viktor Tikhonov or Vladislav Tretiak. Now that would be super cool!!! Get me an autograph while you are at it.
D,
I thought it was the Bering Sea???? I could be wrong.
But what the hell do I know. Anyway, i would prefer taking
that leap in the Black Sea during summer...you know, when
all thong-kinis break out!!! :)

Nice intro...when I travel alone I always notice things I would never notice
with another person..and yes, there's the moment to reflect as a solitary
individual, looking inward.....well put. My father helped to build nuclear subs during the cold war so my childhood was colored with fear of the Soviets, yet I really didn't take the time to learn more about life there. Thanks for the story. Would love to see pictures!
You've drawn us in, look forward to
more......
Maybe that's what is wrong with me at the moment. I need to get back out on the road and experience the world, too. Loved Russia when I was there doing research for my novel (will be released in 2010).
Right on Sue. When you see those letters you realize how far you've left Kansas behind...But that's a good thing!:). Like you, I'm sure I'm going to get some novel material from my time in Russia. As my RT editor, Tina, astutely pointed out yesterday, many writers must come to Russia in order to write a great novel...And I will tell you this. People read here. A lot!
Cheers
