Why do you think Dmitry Medvedev is not willing to participate in the media campaign debates?
Sevodnya_Net 26 February, 2008, 15:01 Norman is right that debates in the current election campaign are of questionable value and is right to head up the feebleness of the 3 candidates who have anything to gain by debate: One represents the past, one is a caricature and one is a stooge candidate put in place to give the preceedings some harmless, eccentric "interest". The fact is that the authorities saw to it long ago by a series of means that no one with anything meaningful to say in the way of criticism of the current regime would have access to the airtime allotted to presidential candidates. A truly deplorable state of affairs.

Marzipan6 27 February, 2008, 10:00 By no means am I a fan or a defender of all things American. But I do note the startling contrast between the US and Russian presidential elections. In America, there is a desperate, entirely genuine and very public contest for who will even be the candidates. In Russia the only candidate who mattered was appointed by a regal nod of the Presidential head, and everyone knew who will win the election before even the first vote was cast. In democratic countries, the abilities and talents of the population are genuinely empowered to be applied to the service of the country in leadership roles. In Russia, they are not. This is why democracies grow, develop and succeed, and why Russia does not, but lurches from one self-reinvention to another.

All-seeing-eye 2 March, 2008, 06:30 Yes, there is a difference between the US and Russian presidential elections. I don't recall Putin grooming his progeny or wife for the presidency. I guess Russia is just crazy, for not letting the presidency become a plaything for a handful of big businesses and family bloodlines.

Ergatis 21 June, 2009, 14:10 Dear All_Seeing_Eye, I agree with you. The president of USA is NOT elected by the people. He is elected after much brain-washing by the TV and media owned by Zionists. The campaigns are sponsored by companies and he who can spend more money to brain-wash the people is finally elected. There are only two parties one right and one far-right. So the people are not asked to select between different political ideals but between things only God knows what... That 's why advertisement, public relations and brainwashing work so well in USA. If differences was in political ideals then advertisement, public relations and brainwashing would not work. There is no way to parsuade a liberal to vote the ... communist party, even if you show him some ... nude girls of komsomol waving soviet flags! (I krasnomu znameni slavnoi otchizni, mi budem svegda bezevyetno verni). The communists wouldn't do such a thing of course... It would be a great show anyway. In USA, stupid Americans will vote Obama just because his face is everywhere, even on ... condoms! Marzipan6 continues his/her tradition to draw satisfaction from saying bad things about Russia. Of course "by no means is he/she a fan or a defender of all things American". USA fought against Nazis as well as Russia. Of course "democracies grow, develop and succeed" so much (like the Baltics or the "orange-rebel" Ukraine) that they have been bankrupted and people there are eating from the trash! Like "mushrooms in the dark and fed you-know-what". And of course "poor" Russia "lurches from one self-reinvention to another" as a superpower. So, as impossible as it seems, I have managed to ... "agree" with Marzipan6!!! - Ergatis.

Anton Hoenderkamp 25 June, 2009, 07:40 I would like to state that it is important to have a free media. But the media should not be able to manipulate and distort information to their own gain. I have sensed that the BBC in the United Kingdom have done this. Why is a free media important? Diversity! Inovation! More ideas and better ethics. So Dimitri Medvedev should allow more debate into having a free media. But there must be control over the media to the point where privacy is not infringed. In PMQ's yesterday, the British parliament's Prime Minister's question time, an MP stood up and said that someone telephoned him. The whole house went into rapturous laughter and jeering. Why? Because the sense was that he did not physically telephone the person but in fact had just sensed a thought or a sense. Stupid really. We need a balance between reality and the metaphysical realm. I have discerned that there is a lot of ambiguity over the issue of pain and death. To the point where people disrespect pain or death because they have sensed that there is no pain or death. Saying that people do not die. They should be ashamed of themselves. So my point is, that the media should have freedom, but only along the lines of reality. Which involves primarily the physical world. Kind regards Anton
