What mascot would you choose for the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014?
dan 21 November, 2007, 09:36 leave the dolphins and other wild creature where they are happy and dont capture and cage them for human amusement. Why dont you use a nuclear missile as a mascot as your president seems obsessed with them and this will no doubt please him

Konstantin 21 November, 2007, 15:19 "Why dont you use a nuclear missile as a mascot as your president seems obsessed with them and this will no doubt please him" at least he didn't suggest to use 'mini-nukes' or threatened to nuke Iran. that's other leader's speciality. but how about a speaking vodka-bottle on skis wearing sunglasses?

Olympian 21 November, 2007, 19:23 How about a Dolphin coming out of the sea on a pair of skis. This will signify two things - One that Sochi is a beautiful sea beach evolving into a world class ski/winter sports resort. Two, since Dolphins signify both peace and 'maybe' extra terrestrials, it could mean "Peace in the Universe" OR even that aliens want us to live in peace?? However it seems to me a good Symbol of Russia, winter Olympics, Sochi and FINALLY - Russia wants and supports peaceful Sports!!

Norman 21 November, 2007, 20:22 I believe that the mascot of the 2014 Winter Olympics, in Sochi, should be a winter related creature. It should also be an animal that inspires hope and unity. Beijing has such a mascot. As corny as it sounds, a small bear cub would be nice. When little, bears are really cute and playful ( JUST LOOK OUT FOR MOTHER BEAR ). Deer are also very popular in the winter. Again, congradulations to Sochi. Have a great Olympics!

Konstantin 21 November, 2007, 22:12 I think a Russian oligarch should buy German 'Knut' icebear for Sochi's Olympic games :D

MihalMihalich 22 November, 2007, 01:59 Dear Ladies & Gentlemen Dolphin mascot is a great idea. RE: "Why dont you use a nuclear missile as a mascot as your president seems obsessed with them and this will no doubt please him" Unites states presidential candidate Barack Obama says that if he was elected he will use nuclear weapons against terrorists., which means it will lead to WW3, but That doesn't concern you dan. you want to poo on Olympic games. Best regards

Sam 22 November, 2007, 04:57 Why do people have to make even a lite hearted topic political? What has capturing dolphins got to do with it? Dan is you are so worried about dolphins and whales then you should be talking to Japan now. As for Nukes, well am sorry to say this but US seems to be pointing an equal amount of nukes on russia.I do not believe the brits and the french have decommisioned ours yet. Back to the topic,The brown bear is the national animal of russia and was the moscot for the 1980 olympics.Cannt see why they cannt make him one again but this time on skis

Magomed 22 November, 2007, 12:46 If the purpose of the mascot is to represent the special and unique qualities of Russia, then it should be a hybrid creature composed of equal parts oligarch, silovik, and gopnik.

David 22 November, 2007, 20:17 Here we go again people making sarcastic statement against the Russian President particularly in a family orientated forum. There is no need for this, however if one chooses to continue along this road how about you guys stick your nukes where the sun don't shine i.e. clean up your own back garden first and stop trying to be the 'world's policeman' (dictator more like it!) Getting back to the point - perhaps using the Bear (as someone has already posted) is a good basis on which to start. But,I think that politicians keep out of it and let the children of the free world decide (Russian Federation) in an open competition with the 1 st prize being all expenses paid trip for the family at the opening festivities.

GD 22 November, 2007, 21:05 And what is the country of your origin Magomed??. For a Mascot it has to be something local, from the region, that will unite the multi-ethnic North Caucasus.

Sevodnya_Net 23 November, 2007, 09:29 Mascots tend to be cuddly little things. I envisage a little bear in a Caucasian hat called "Rossis-Ski" or a female bear on skates called "Katyatska" Sochi is our twin town, so here's hoping for a successful, peaceful event.

The Director 24 November, 2007, 15:59 I would choose two white Stallions. One Stallion standing on its hind legs one each side of the Olympic Rings which shall be in Gold. There will be a blue or red or white Background.

Cuddles 25 November, 2007, 09:06 We have had enough of bears and Matyushyas, lets have something more Universal and appealing! The dolphin is universal, is symbolic and above all represents PEACE with A BIG P. Let the doves fly overhead, the hills beckon in the background and sea open up to a new DAWN of everlasting peace and understading. Let the national boundaries disappear, the divisions among men be healed and the rifts and sadness be overcome. Let PEACE reign through Olympics in Russia.

AE 26 November, 2007, 10:20 I don't know if it's just me or not, but when I think of a dolphin it makes me think of something realllly wet, nor can I even picture it wearing an ushanka and being a mascot for Winter Olypmics. A dolphin would be a perfect mascot for some kind of swimming tournament, not Winter Olympics. I say they should stick with a bear or cub this time. :) p.s. I think this is a wrong place to be discussing politics people, please take it somewhere else.

Adyge 23 February, 2008, 20:13 I am strongly against an olympic event to take place in Sochi. Sochi was once the mighty capital of a Circassian nation and now a Russian stadium is being put up on the graves of the great ancestors of modern Europe. This olympic event is taking place in Circassia becuase circassia is the most beutiful region in all of Russia and it deserves it's recognition as an independent race of people.

Lioshenka 7 March, 2008, 15:13 I was always hoping that they would choose the asme Olympic bear from 1980 games, but this time make him polar instead of brown. Would be so nice!

P 7 May, 2008, 15:43 The classical greek olypic emblem. In this world where almost every stone has been turned, we face an inward challenge, a challenge of quality of life. Champions of life win with honour, and remembering the mighty greeks, who were most honourable, showing today's world that their attitude and findings are still relevant in today's world.
