Nico 18 January, 2009, 12:32 The ukrain maffia can only clain a Phyrrus victory. To blame are the organisators of the robbery with hostaging europian nations as a whole wih the seat in Washington. The same organisators of the bloodshed in Gaza.Next they will be replaced by a governement that wil bring a mix of armed power and diplomacy We have seen such a mix under Bush jr. The world urges a US diplomacy which is headed to peacefull solutions. Concerning the armed power, we have seen enough of that power after WW II. In Europe it brought the Marshallplan sklavery and today´s maffiapractice between states on the continent in the name of democracy and freedom.

Regular_John 18 January, 2009, 17:16 Let’s hope this new deal puts an end to this energy crisis well at least for 2009 we will have to wait and see what new tricks Ukraine will try to pull to get out of paying market prices next year sorry to say after this I would not trust Yuschenko/Timoshenko as far as I could throw them. Ukraine has shown they are more than willing to use their position as a key transit country to literally hold the whole of Europe to ransom employing tactics that would make the Sicilian mafia blush. I’m sure they are very happy now that Russia will again subsidise them for another year adding to the $47 billion worth of subsidies they have already enjoyed since the end of the Soviet Union. Russia and the EU must now work together to formulate a coordinated energy plan that will see Ukraine’s position as a key transit country diminish thus removing their ability to extort cheap energy. Russia is fully entitled to expect market prices for its energy. Also I agree with the Russian proposal that would see the EU sharing in the cost of guaranteeing the transit of gas through Ukraine in future. Russia must not be left to bear this burden alone as its in all our interests to deal with the Ukrainian loose cannon. From the perspective of an EU citizen I am shocked, disappointed and disgusted by the Ukraine’s behaviour. And all this from a country that hopes to join the union, unbelievable, this country is light years away from acceptance it will take a complete change in leadership we certainly do not want this corrupt and tarnished bunch.

TRIATHLON 19 January, 2009, 03:24 THE BLAME LAY'S WITH THE (USI/MIC) All the present problems that are leading to the World War III, Yes, WWIII, rests with the Imperialist (USI?MIC)United States of Israel, and its (51st)State, the Tip of the Spear into the the (USI/MIC) United States of Israel, and its (51st) State, The Tip of the Spear into the heart of the “Islamic crescent", Middle Eastern and Central Asian, Israel and its function as the manager state of those territories. It is time the entire Peace Loving Peoples of the Globe, unite and end the rain of terror, of Pox Americana, giving it no other options then its removal of all troops to within its own borders, and an immediate return to the table of arms reduction. It is a time of decision, we face WWIII, with the continuation of the (USI/MIC) in its present imperialist actions, or it is stopped and a new era of peace and prosperity from international harmony thru international cooperation, based upon International Law, (UN) United Nations Charters, Treaties and Agreements, begins, but the time is now, or the option will be WWIII.

Joey 19 January, 2009, 15:52 I think Russia should invade Ukraine to finally resolve the dispute. Russia has the military might, power and technology to invade and crush Ukraine. Therefore they should do so just like they did in Georgia. The dispute will never get resolved until Russia teaches Ukraine a lesson. If they did invade Ukraine the inhabitants would welcome them with open arms because they will be liberators. I do not believe that the West would be foolish enough to start World War III as they want to promote peace just like they did throughout the cold war. Russia has nothing to fear by undertaking in such action because it has the power to do so, and energy supplies will be restored once more.

DD 19 January, 2009, 16:37 Of course Marzipan with her "anti-Russian till the bitter end" attitude sees the things in a different way, even when things are so obvious! Perhaps its time to wake up from your virtual reality and live in the actual world of today?! Russia is not the enemy anymore.. moreover it is more the leaders of the Baltics, Poland, Czech R., Georgia, and Ukraine who cause us more trouble here in Europe. It's time for them to become true independent instead of accepting the humiliating position of being only a US-puppet,a poodle,a marionet, not even serving its own interests but somebody else's!! Its a shame!

Sam 19 January, 2009, 19:47 Some people here are so anti Russian that simple facts do not register in their heads any more.No matter what EU monitors say,no matter that a country openly steals other countries resources,no matter Russia is financing indirectly a government that is hostile to them and which openly blackmails both them and the EU. To them Russia most be guilty some how.Its already comical.Makes you wonder about all these "fact" they tend to try and feed us when it comes to their favorite topic which are the Baltic states.

Mikhail 21 January, 2009, 15:44 The corrupt "orange" regime of Yushchenko backed by fascist Western Ukrainians is the undeniable answer to who is the guilty party in this "dispute." However, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bendera loving scum in Kiev are being tacitly egged on by Washington. It seems that anywhere there is a problem in post-Soviet nations the hand of the CIA is nearby. Mikhail

Marzipan6 21 January, 2009, 19:01 Sam and DD make vast, sweeping, truculent and extremely emotional accusations without the benefit of even one solitary point of factual evidence. I guess you don’t need evidence where dogma rules.

Sam 22 January, 2009, 18:59 Would like to disappoint you Marzipan, unlike you I so not get emotional over any topic. The resident defender of the Baltic. No one can post anything on that page without an essay been blasted at them. That is what emotional looks like. With out factual evidence? You most be having me on.I do believe all the evidence was in the press if you care to read it other then pick selectively. Ukraine is paying a fraction of the real cost of gas for some reason and refuses to pay the going rate like others. Ukraine does not even pay for the gas taken even with the high discount. Ukraine is cut off. Ukraine re routed EU gas supply. All supply via Ukraine is stopped. Ukraine demands a ransom before it lets the gas pass.Russia eventually pays the Ransom. Tell me that's not the sequel of events.
