He will obediently consume whatever lies the New York Times and the Washington Post have to offer him also, and which they have been spewing out for decades now. We only need to look at the very words of the famous Mr. David Rockefeller to establish the fact that there is now and always has been a fascist conspiracy at work behind the scenes in the USA since the end of WWII. Jeff 2 September, 2008, 23:14 I am American born in Nebraska just after the Cuban Missile crisis. My mother used to tell me about how sick she used to get being pregnant with me and thinking WW3 was just around the corner. She was a history teacher and raised me to view politics and history as independently and as objectively as possible. In college I studied a great deal of history, I took several courses on the Cold War and the history of the Soviet Union. Today, in the news I read alot about the "New" Cold War with Russia. I don't agree with this, I feel that this is just the continuation of the Old Cold War. Why, the Communist bloc was dissolved in the early 1990's, but the US still did not win the Cold War because the Russians were able to hold on to their nuclear weapons. This is what is fueling the real motives in the US's dealings with the Russian Federation. If we can begin to see this current US/Russian conflict as a maturation of the Old Cold War, we really need to examine the goals that the US has pursued in order to achieve this end. We really need to start with the Carter Doctrine. With the Iranian Revolution and the Soviet invasion of Afganistan, President Carter set into policy the assurance that the US would go to war over middle eastern oil. He then moved to establish a new US military command (USCENTCOM) and the Rapid Deployment force. This was to be the military arm of the Carter Doctrine. Once US Central Command (CENTCOM) was established, every possible scenerio for which the US might enter a conflict in the Persian Gulf was codified into CENTCOM planning and strategies. With the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war these plans bordered on the insane. The jist of CENTCOM planning was centered around intervention on the losing side's behalf, even if that intervention was not welcomed by the loosing side. The general idea was to let Iran and Iraq slug it out for as long as possible without allowing either side to win. Eventually, after the two had weakened themselves substantialy, the US would move in on one of the two and occupy their oil fields. The securing of either one of these two country's oil reserves was to be accomplished before NATO could move towards a general war with the Warsaw Pact. After the fall of the Soviet Union, we did not see CENTCOM abandon it's planning and execution of the Carter Doctrine, but rather, an acceleration there of. under both the Bush's and Clinton administrations. Also, in parallel with the two Gulf Wars, we have seen a boom in US weapons research and procurement at a level that far outstrips the earlier cold war levels of spending. In particular, we see the blossoming of a wide array of offensive platforms which have been specifically designed to take out the Russian Strategic Missile Forces in a pre-emptive nuclear strike. The overt militarization of space as well as the covert deployment of nuclear assets into space all combine to meet the real defenition of Star Wars -- a pre-emptive strike on Russian strategic assets while those assets are still in their silo's. The easiest way to destroy an ICBM is to catch it while it is still in it's silo. The Real Star Wars saw the developments of technologies like the b-61 mod11 earth-penetrating tactical nuclear warhead with a 3D seismic homing unattended ground sensor array, anti-satellite weapons like the SM-3, miniturized (pulse EM) neutron bombs and the list goes on, and on. In a nut shell, I feel that the US military is intentionally provoking the Russian Federation in order to justify going to war. What is going on in the Western media only reaffirms my suspicions that the time is now. Remember that the pre-requisite for a pre-emptive strike on the Russian Federation is a believable probable cause. Just as long as that probable cause is believable, any doubts will be dispelled when they rewrite history after the war.

always 3 September, 2008, 01:09 This is the beggining of the end of the American empire.it may be a little time though until we see the full manifestation of this.they have acted unjustly since prior to the iraq invasion.the current 'neo conservative' government run by the Bush and Cheneys has destroyed a once brilliant nation they are violent and aggressive and incredibly deceptive. The sad thing is the current American administration does not represent most of the American people. Bush has a 20% aspproval rating and congress had nearly 10% approval at one point. Even though people are wanting Obama to bring desperate change its probably to late. The EU will turn on America as will NATO in the next few years because the Georgia issue was an American intelligence plot to draw Russia into Georgia making them look like the 'baddies' to the whole world when it was Georgia that attacked South Ossetia first any educated person in the west knows this.UK will have to humble themselves soon and distance themself from America and then they will quitely slip into the EU a little red faced. I am thankful here in Australia we voted out our previous government that supported the 'neo cons' by a landslide. theres still hope for us yet.

Danny 3 September, 2008, 03:17 OSSETIA On September 1, 2004; 32 Chechen terrorists entered the town of Beslan, North Ossetia and took more than 1,100 people (777 children) hostage. Their target was School Number One, located next door to the district police station where children, parents and teachers gathered to celebrate the traditional Russian “Day of Knowledge”—the first day of the new school year when children wearing their best clothes, bring gifts to honor their teachers. The terrorists herded everyone into the brand new school gymnasium and promptly shot all the men in order to instill fear and eliminate resistance. Young girls were ordered to throw away all cell phones. When one of the phones rang, a terrorist shot the little girl dead at point blank. Explosives were rigged above and around the traumatized women and children. For three days, in a hot gym, the hostages languished with no bathroom facilities, water or food. One of the explosives detonated, then another, killing at least two of the terrorists and many children. Children began running out of the gym and were chased outside by terrorists gunning them down. Enraged Russian Security Forces, backed by armed civilians, counter-attacked the terrorists, stormed the gymnasium and adjacent buildings, and executed all but one of the terrorists. In the end, 331 hostages were killed, including 186 children, and more than 200 seriously injured. 10 Russian Special Forces gave their lives trying to save the children as the terrorists used them as shields. Ensuing fires consumed some of the bodies, mostly children…who remain listed as missing. On September 4, 2004, a shaken President Vladimir Putin made an unofficial trip to Beslan. From the airport, in a private van, he drove to the hospital to meet with survivors of the Beslan Massacre. Putin, who had refused to negotiate with the terrorists, reflected on the attack, “We were weak…and the weak are beaten”. The first time President Bush met President Putin in 2001, Bush, speaking of Putin said, “I was able to get a sense of his soul, a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country”. The referendum was monitored and verified by a team of 34 international observers. On August 8, 2008, while George Bush and Vladimir Putin sat next to each other in Beijing, China for the opening day of the Olympics…American trained and financed Georgian troops launched a vicious assault on Tskhinvali--the capital city of South Ossetia, with the intent of recapturing the breakaway region. Barrages of imprecise heavy artillery and multiple rocket systems fell on innocent children, women, and senior citizens. This was followed by a mass invasion into the capital city by Georgian troops and armor which brutally massacred civilians and Russian peacekeepers. The once beautiful capital of South Ossetia was destroyed. Ossetians cried genocide and proclaimed, ‘This is our 911”. The following day, an outraged Russian military counter-attacked and drove the Georgian army out of southern Ossetia, pressing hard with a pursuit that turned into a complete rout of the Georgian military. Russians spent the following days capturing hundreds of abandoned Georgian heavy and light guns, armored personnel carriers, tanks, and vehicles; including 20 new up-armored American Humvees. On August 26, 2008, the Russian Federation officially recognized Ossetia’s independence. Ossetians…who are the direct descendants of the Biblical Samaritans and are predominantly Christian, appealed to the Russian Federation to be their Protectorate. Russia has committed to building new military bases inside South Ossetia, and has gone on record that if anyone ever again attacks the Ossetians with weapons of mass destruction…Russia will respond with tactical nuclear weapons. So now there are only NATO's ships. Since the conflict started all the world has been calling Russia an agressor. Everyone forgot about America's military company in Asia. Now look at the map. Iraq, Afganistan, Georgia, Azerbaidjan, trainings in the Indian Ocean. Everything's around Iran. Okay. Why did Russia invade Georgia so long? I know! Russian militaries were destroying NATO air defense systems that could guarantee safe access for NATO jets from Black Sea to Iran. That was the reason of isterics in America about that. When American TV showed their CARE package to Georgia I saw only melons and some other fruit. Excuse me, guys, but I thought there was a lot of fruit in Georgia. Most fruit in Russia is from Georgia and Kazakhstan. What's the next. Russia's TV talked about American toilet paper and some accessories for a shower found in Georgia. By the way Georgia's military contracts don't contain the hole list of necessary staff for a shower and the like, but US contracts do. So it was there for future US militaries. Maybe also for present, because there was no Africans who were Georgia-citizens, but there were some dead Africans in Osetia. I don't think they were from Nigeria. Thus Russia just put off or perhaps even averted war against Iran. Maybe my thoughts seem crazy, but you should understand, that all the policy has been determined by oil interest since 1908. Forget democracy and terrorism. Empty words. There is no democracy in Arabia, but it's okay because US rule it. Osama Ben Laden was a CIA virtual project against the Soviet Union. That's nothing. Iran is the second country with reserves of oil. Arabia is the first, Russia is the third. America rules Arabia, America will never rule Russia, but a new revolution in Iran is possible. By the way CIA has held more then 30 revolutions in the world. It has great experience. Saakashvili was just a pawn. No one in the world realy cares about his country and people there. Only oil.

James 3 September, 2008, 05:47 I live in the United States and have been following the Georgia/Russia conflict since early August and will continue to follow it as it continues and/or as long as I am able. No, I am not a writer. only an interested citizen of the world. Keep in mind that not everyone in the US sees Russia as the "bad guy" in the conflict against Georgia and in fact agree with the actions taken and are embarrassed by the fact that we, as a nation, where not there along side Russia in this matter. Based on everything that I have read and heard, I firmly believe that the Russian government took the right coarse of action against Georgia.

Ethnic cleansing. As for 9/11 - I think there is more fact supporting the conspiracy theories which the US gvt is battling to bury - The main reason for waging war against the rest of the world.

Wake up people and rise stand UP for RUSSIA, ONLY trully independent nation in Europe. If RUSSIA fails Europe will become same as USA and Canada, stolen land with forcefully imposed nationality that means really NOTHING. Serbia was trying to stand independent as well and we saw what happened. Independent Serbia died since it was small and surounded by obedient slave countries and unfortunatelly was helped by noone. Today, I can see same policies beeing applied to Russia, slowly entangling it from all sides. After that fundamental truth, I must say that Russia is absolutelly right going in and helping Ossetian people. Not only Ossetian civilians died, but also 12 russian peacekeepers. Russian troops should have gone all the way and should have arrested and tried Sakashvili.

Even the Serbian government is not happy: You traited their argument of integrity of a state. The Serbian case is lost forever. And in Germany, the voters will choose very carefully between two evils: The neoliberal economy preferred by the CDU (party of Merkel) or the Russian- understanding left parties who ignore that their so-called Russian partners make simply fun of Germany and whole Europe. Russia seems to understand nothing but power and violence. Europe will watch what`s happening in the next months. Never before, Europeans have been more united than today. Snoepy 3 September, 2008, 09:40 Are you kidding me. Any patriotic nation in our world today is ready to protect herself and her citizens from such a merciless and brutal attack from Georgia. I said to some people that,if Georgia would have killed Americans citizens and soldiers at night, Saakashavili would not have sited infront of television camera and chew his tie,but he would have chew ten boxes of ties at once,because America the merciless invader would have destroyed every living thing in that nation,and neither UN and EU would have said nothing. But when the issue is about Russia defending her citizens,those people who can neither see or think properly,called Russia the aggressor.The decision of some EU nation impressed me,and it tells me that,there is still hope for Europe.I am an african,but i am for justice and truth.I love those,that love the truth. May God bless and protect Russia and her people.

Like the following, for example: “Georgia showed foolishness and very, very poor judgment in seeking a military solution to Russia’s years-long provocations against it” (Aug 31 2008, 15:47). “From this comprehensive position of Moscow-caused bankruptcy, with no democratic traditions or institutions and with deep Soviet-era wounds that had been left to fester, Georgia had to begin an arduous process of national healing and recovery. It has made some mistakes along the way” (Aug 30 2008, 05:58). Sounds a little less than 100% support, wouldn’t you say? I have also expressed similar sentiments in other topics, and in my responses to some of Peter Lavelle’s pieces. Georgia has been emotional, volatile and somewhat immature in its reaction to Russian provocations. These have indeed resulted in the deaths of innocent people, and had no chance of securing the territorial integrity of its country. Russia, by contrast, has been cynical, calculating, malevolent and untruthful in its march to restoring empire,both before,during and after the Georgian conflict. Its actions have also been responsible for the deaths of innocent people. But unlike Georgia’s, they hold within them the seeds of much, much wider tragedy not only for every country of the former Soviet space, but for Russians themselves.
