What are your hopes and fears for Russia in 2009?
Sarah 8 December, 2009, 14:26 My greatest hope for Russia is that social investment in education, housing, health, basic research in science and technology and in the humanities will continue this year despite economic crisis. My greatest fear for Russia is new terrorist activities designed to destabilize and weaken the country. RT is doing great job in informing the world about Russia. Keep up the good work! I share Charles Greene’s feeling. I want to say also that God bless and heal the whole mother earth and God bless Mother Russia.

Sarah 8 December, 2009, 14:38 Gearshift, it seems that you are having a bad day or night to says these words. Let me reassure you America was never great in the battle field nor has the United States brought peace and security to the world. America’s greatness is the products of Hollywood movie. I do not speak weapons and military power but even that, the U.S has been beating up little guys since WII. I agree that the Bolsheviks did some bloody things but the transformation they brought to Russia and the fighting spirits of the Red Army is the real reason why the world today is not ruled according to the supremacist ideology of the Third Reich. Russia is an old tradition, an ancient country. I wish enough Americans will learn Russian and travel in Russia. This is the only way to cure their deeply ingrained Russophobia.

Sarah is very intelligent. It is to view both sides of a conversation that upgrades and dignifies. Sorry to say, this grand website reaches for the truth and is policed. Sarah, ( whatever ), your fine posts are an asset, for the fine people who sponsor it. Let reiterate, America is commie controlled. The Russian people are not relegated to the actions of the Red army during WWII. My views are that America should reconstruct the Republic, in recognizing a greater future under pure capitalistic entrepreneurship, for the future of upcoming citizens! Planted Socialism as a weapon to destruct a republic, in order to elevate, alien philosophies, countering a Western world political proclivities, in order to establish Eastern mental and cultural significances, in this hemisphere is absolutely impossible.

Evidently, it appears that several posters are pro and con respective of Russia and the United States. Apparently, there seems a predisposition, for self-flagulation, on both both sides. Please give me a moment in clearing a misconception respectively of the fifty United States. It startles one that higher education doesn't get around to Article 6, Sec. 6, regarding treaties. Now this public domain for all who post, or make short visits. Let me make it clear. Both Russia and America are composed, collectively, as freedom lovers, and in the various manners of choosing their God of choice. Astounding it is to discover an astablished, fundamental truth, that America and great Russia had began a love affair with the founding of our country in the beginning. Let's take a look. Originally, the first colonies had no togatherness. Basically there were two types of mainline thinkers. One was composed of Whigs, the other Tories. One recognizing a sort of new Western Civilization, the other, Mother Britain. In the long run the revolution came to pass. Ever since that earlier period of America's gaining a looked for fredom, the Tories and Whigs, their contemporary descendants, are still around, changing party names, etc. But, blood is thicker than water. No one can forget their origins. In other words, a lepord cannot change its spots. Now here is the fly within the ointment. Read and put on your thinking cap!

Sarah, A respond was forwarded regarding WW11, military might and HOLLYWOOD. This post was not printed. Can you explain this. The oridnary bread and butter pablum is not for me--no special grind fits my better half.My own drummer leads me alone!

Meslin 15 December, 2009, 15:16 My greatest hopes for Russia who has credible and competent leaders will be to expose the real facts about the actual mankind governance. Consequently, this will make her save for herself a lot of anguish and a lot of money. Someone will have to explain the cost of mankind's most popular and (for a few) rewarding industry: the self-destruction industry, commonly called: defense or armaments' industry. This fantasy and the refusal to reconvert has only costed in the past 60 years: over 60 trillions $ (60 followed by 12 zeros)...Copenhagen would have been the perfect place for mentioning that insanity and preparing humanity for a better future, but apparently nobody will say anything. Why, all over the World, armament is something that no credible politician want to talk about ? Honnestly, I have great dificulties to understand Russia and her BRIC friends' silence on that subject. Is-it not Russia who, thru the ages has so much suffer from other states' agressiveness ? Now, she has all the elements to once and for all, clean-up the whole mess, left by those who wanted to impose mankind's inslavery by money. Beside, that phoney economic crisis and the fear of disordered climat have given the perfect occasion to rise the subject on a planetary forum. Sorry Future Generations ! . Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

Jean-Claude Meslin Jean, Do a little research and you might comprehend the vicious cycle of wealth, gun powder and global explortation behind the scenes of Russia nand Amrican political whoredom. In 1892, Cecil Rhodes, billionaire, sat up the Pilgrim Society. This secret organization is still in existence under present day organizational variations. Rhodes was a representative of London's, ( Empire of the City). And it exists today. This society is a Super State. This one-eyed invisibal cylops is the master influence behind international finance. Now you have a picture! What you think matters little. Most likely, this information will wind up in file 13, the trash dumpster. We will see!

Sarah 23 December, 2009, 22:17 This blog is not the place for grand debates. We are asked to express our hopes and fears for Russia in the coming year. I have expressed all that I wished for Russia and what I fear the most. Russia has so much potential to be a new centre of global action in research, innovations, abundant resources, massive land, rich culture and wonderful and beautiful people. One more of mine is that wish that tourism will be better developed, visas to Russia will become easier to obtain; hotels in Moscow will be cheaper and that I will improve my Russian in the new year!

Astrid 21 March, 2010, 16:03 My hope is that Russia will remain strong and independent of the tired old socialism/capitalism, left/right etc. etc. supposed opposites, and continue to be a beacon of hope to those of us in countries such as Britain where we are led by such political, economic and idealogical infants, in thrall to huge commercial interests, and stifled by political correctness. I think the way that Russians refer to Russia as Mother is touching and lovely. I hope also that the profound spiritual and intellectual depth of the Russian people will continue to triumph over trashy consumerism.and celebrity "culture". My fears for Russia are implicit in these hopes, as the converse would be disastrous for her. Enoch Powell once said that one day Russia would be our saviour. I hope that she will consider us to be worth saving

Cossack Canuck 22 May, 2010, 17:49 I hope Russia stands up to the existing NATO threat with a fearless attitude. I also hope the Kremlin pays more attention to the plight of the poorer regions of the country. Russia: OLE!

dd 5 August, 2010, 17:24 I hope Russia will remember what its ideals and principles are.. because it seems to me they forgot all about them. For a few dollars and some tiny US favours, Russia has already forgotten who its real friends are. Sticking the knife in the back of the Belarusians , the Iranians, the Palestinians... is a cowardly act, not worthy for a great nation as Russia is. Greetings, DD

Elvis Jackson 7 October, 2010, 15:43 I was once unwell to an extreme level and now I am excellent at many things, I achieved this through training and progress..there is all of time, I think things will work out eventually. My life is still at a bottom level, so I continue, yes mistakes/regrets/ills happen, but I try to progress, we shall see. As for Russia and the world, it is the same in my view. I hope Max is doing well in space. I wish I could see the railway built to Nice in France, I like things like that, I would judge it in some way, like seeing olympiads in action.

dd 9 December, 2010, 23:15 I'm glad Russian politicians got back with their feet on earth. Thanks to our brave hero Mr. assange Russians know their exact position in US politics. As long as the US still rules over Europe and other parts of the world, Russia will never be treated as an equal partner. I hope Russia's rulers got that by now! Its good Russia is restoring their historical brotherly relationship with Belarus, after the dishonoring & cowardice treatment of their brother nation. Now the others still..

Vlad 12 December, 2010, 21:55 Marzipan6 - You talk of knowing history and that others need to follow. How about looking at english history when your Queen Victoria enslaved the world, killing masses of people around the world, encouraging the continuance of slavery and robbing those countries of its riches, and for what?? Look at what USA is doing, with England supporting her (well england has the experience of country domination) The Soviet Union is dead. Let us leave it like that and look to the future. Russia has a lot to offer the world. Russia is not trying to occupy other countries, but to share its knowledge, wealth (financial, mineral, human and agriculture). The problem with theWest is that the people have been brainwashed into believing Russia and the Russiansare terrible people, hence there is a Red under your bed! The West must stop preaching to Russia about democracy. Get your own house in order, first.

Bryan 25 January, 2011, 16:37 It is my hope for Russia for 2011 that there is no hatred from this attack against
those who did not do it, and that further such attacks will be prevented.   I send
my sympathies to the people of Russia and all those who were close to the victims.

Whoever did was not a hero, but a true loser and coward of the lowest sort.  May
Russia only grow stronger from such experiences.   As an American I feel sadness
and anger against the attackers, and sympathy for all Russians, of all ethnic groups,
may they all learn to live in peace and unity and together condemn the foolish behaviour
of those who fight the cowardly battle of the terrorist.    Their cause is lost, because there is no moral
to it.

British might have been involved but not because of Blair.

I get so fed up watching RT and reading a lot of the comments here. Of course the west has done some things wrong, it has also dont a lot right like being in the main democratic for decades. something the east can not boast.

Constantly you rant on about Vietnam and Iraq, but we never hear about your countries dreadful past in Chechyna. You rant on about western corruption, but seem to foget Russia has endemic corruption and crime. You rant on about the wests obesity, but forget about your horrific alcohol problem.

See there is right and wrong on both sides. For goodness sake let us all grow up and try to work together. Im so sick of biased media channels like Fox News and RT, treating us like kids and pretending only one side has all the answers and one side does all the evil.

ps to those mentioning Queen Victoria (sad sad sad!) and our role in slavery, you fogrot to mention it was the Britain that were the first to outlaw it. Before the US, before Russia.

The British have interfered in world affairs for a long whle and just because somebody else might do it does not make it right and is no argument for a just cause but just meaningless rhetoric. Britain wasdefeated by USA in 1776 but there are many more occasions where British intervention has turned into disaster: Ireland, India, Kenya, Suez to name a few and what Iraq and Afghanistan account for in the coming years only time will tell but one things is sure, if Britain can not deal with it's near neighbours in Europe and Russia it cannot succeed in places so far removed as Iraq and Afghanistan. Having lived in England all my life I am pro-EU and UN intervention and political resolution at what ever level world wide and totally anti-British imperialist interference in affairs around the globe. Having lived in England all of my life and being pro-English freedom I am absolutely nothing to do with undemocratic interventionism and it is a pity that many people like me who follow the cause of democracy and rightful government institutions are sometimes judged as imperialist interventionists. We are not. There are many in the British Isles who pursue the cause of a free England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales which already have good levels of devolution from the British government having their own parliamentary assemblies and government systems with which at some point to engage in world affairs at the EU and within the UN as independent nations. The fact that the bogus UK government makes this work difficult is not the doing of many people committed to world democracy and the place of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales within this system. Many people who live here are genuinely opposed to British interventionist policies and seek genuine democracy under the rule of international law.
