When the Russian Orthodox Church permanently appoints a new head, will he change its relations with other world religions?

My Reply: The Russian and other Soviet peoples did NOT want the Soviet Union dismantled. If you remember, a government organized nationwide referendum was held in the spring of 1991 asking if the Soviet Union should be dissolved. The results of this referendum were quite interesting. 78% of the voters voted AGAINST the dissolution of the USSR. The majority of the people in 14 of the 15 Soviet Socialist Republics voted AGAINST the dissolution of the country. The only SSR that voted FOR the dissolution was Moldavia. Despite the wishes of the people, six months later Yeltsin (Russia), Kravchuk (Ukraine), and Shushkevich (Byelorussia) met at Byelovyezhskaya Pushcha in the Byelorussian SSR and illegally dissolved the Soviet Union. Nazarbayev (Kazakh SSR) was also invited to participate in this cabal, but refused saying that there were legal means written in the Soviet Constitution to accomplish this. The dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was a criminal act. I have no doubt that the CIA, if not NATO, had a hand in this. In any case, the result was the pillage by Yeltsin and his people. Mikhail

ANDREAS 6 February, 2009, 10:15 i hope so! first of all, he must continue the great work of ALEXEI, inside Russia. second, he must find the best solutions about Ukraine. Ukraine is part of Patriarchy of Moscow, nodoupt! after that, he can close the issues, easily, with CONSTANTINOPLE! So, lots of fights for an ORTHODOX PATRIARCH! ..strange.!. {who's the blame? CONSTANTINOPLE's, CIA}

Marzipan6 6 February, 2009, 13:18 Is the head of the Russian Orthodox Church a spiritual guide and teacher of the members of his church, or is he just another arm of the Russian government whose function is to render the country more governable at home, and to polish up the image of Russia abroad? If the first, then he should comfort and strengthen his people, helping them both to recover from the deep wounds of the past and helping them to recognise that they were not only the victims of a rogue regime but also the victimisers of others in the name of that regime. Only in that way can genuine internal and external reconciliation come to Russia, and true closure be brought to Russia’s terrible past. But if he is the second, then perhaps he should quit the pretext of spirituality altogether and simply be a salesman in fancy dress for the Kremlin at home and abroad.

MihalMihalich 9 February, 2009, 06:05 Russian Orthodox church is going to do same as it did in past 1000 years, and that is take care of Orthodox believers. It is possible that new Patriarch Kiril will only restore old traditions that were generally forgotten by Russians.
