Who are the U.S. AMD in Europe REALLY aimed at?
T 20 August, 2008, 11:15 Of course they are aimed at Russia, for the purpose of NATO having the capacity to strike first, without Russia being able to respond. They are truly mad, more so as there are other weapons more lethal (if there is any such thing) than the atomic bombs (scalar weapons for instance) that could be used in a possible showdown. Why is Russia and China not dumping the american dollar by selling all their worthless paper dollar reserves? It would be such a blow to the current regime in America.

D.C.M. 20 August, 2008, 11:16 Good question. From a western perspective I’d say possibly not exclusively Russia, but not exclusively Iran or other countries in the Middle East either. The core idea was global ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) defense, and this core idea has remained. And as a such is a good idea, but this is where the positive aspects stop. America seems to enjoy enforcing their view and their opinion on the world, especially since World War II. Vietnam, Panama, Korea…a CIA coup in Iran, CIA help for the Taliban in the late seventies. During the Cold War, America had possibly (in diplomatic terms) the upper hand (although they made some very, very stupid mistakes) and so they still believe they can go on enforcing their view. Stationing their AMD system in Poland is very symbolic in this respect. Poland, a former member of the Soviet Union, now a member of the EU, stationing the AMD in Poland is another show of American “power”. That in this position it affects Russia would have been obvious even to the most incompetent analysts, and was in this respect possibly intended as a “punch in the face” for Russia. Just the same applies to the war with Georgia – Bush condemned it, but as readers of the Times pointed out, what did America do in Iraq with less justification? For Iraq there was none, for Georgia there was some. The reason America goes ahead with its AMD system is possibly that they fear a loss of face (haven’t they lost it already in Iraq??) if they withdrew the plans, or moved them to another location. The AMD system was more symbolic, a symbol to the world, as a such aimed at Russia, however, at this point America should try to realize that they no longer are the sole world power. Russia has reemerged from the rubble of the Soviet Union, China very nearly owns the US and Europe should learn not to be an American “puppet system”. In this modern world the US’s “individual loner policy” has destabilized the world and achieved the opposite (see terror and Iraq), and the same applies to the AMD. Intended to ensure international security, it will achieve the opposite, shifting the balance of power and alienating countries.

DD 20 August, 2008, 11:20 Russia of course! The US uses these weasel eastern European nations for their own agenda. Propaganda keeps the people uninformed and desinformed, especially to create a fear for Russia. Their weasel puppet governments play all along the same US evil game, leading to nothing but misery. European Union is actually a joke, all US puppet poodles without any pride. They obey the US in any matter, how cruel or injust they may be. A revolution by the people is needed overhere to get rid of this neo-fascist cancer!

Damian 20 August, 2008, 12:18 I can understand Russian anxiety over the placement of "AMD's" in Poland but they carry no balistic war head and use only kinetic energy to distrupt rogue missiles. It therefore does not make sense why a Russian general threatened Poland with a nuclear weapon. Why does Russia not join with the US to create a missile shield for all democratic nations?

Alosha 20 August, 2008, 14:21 The Russian panic against AMD serves for Russian authorities only. Poles have right to defence its territiry due to fact that Russia shown its attitude to Poland in the past. So look at the west and try to cooperate with Poland. This country`s citizens have lot of relatives in Russia. Putin`s politics causes poverty and corruption , it can be seen sharply. Make trade, not war. Europe needs Russia , not the Soviet empire. Poland wants Russian people to cooperate, to trade, to travel. Stop using power. It makes problems only. I really believe it can be done . Salut !

Jon 20 August, 2008, 15:29 Most Russian missiles would travel far to the north of the planned Polish AMD battery, anyway, and even if the radar tracks well into western Russia, the measly 8 or 10 missiles at the site would be quickly overtaken by the vast Russian arsenal, so I don't see why anyone's worried. Having said that, I thought the proposed joint facility in Azerbaijan was a useful idea.

David Andreas 20 August, 2008, 16:11 After the invasion by Putin's armies of Georgia, European countries ( included Baltic States) will reinforce their military capablies with the help of USA - inside NATO - to prepare to ripost to any attack from Russia - whom the actual leader, Putin, has proved that he is a dangerous adventurist who is not even able to keep his words and his signature ( Medvedev is a pupet of Putin - at least until now and during this crisis)

Aryan Indian 20 August, 2008, 17:36 Karsky: so if this Defensive millise is blown up in your back yard, you gonna be fine right? it have written on it that THIS MISSILE ONLY KILLS ANOTHER MISSILE, not humans and THIS MISSILE only hits the another missile in AIR, it can not cause any damage on ground. This is MISSILE, Inerceptor or whatever, YOU CAN use this missile as offensive if you want, and GIVEN American history, RUSSIA is right to OPPOSE IT. cause you can NEVER TRUST WHITE AMERICANS (now blacks join too with CondomLisa Rice)

Jay 20 August, 2008, 17:47 “These installations are not against Russia. This is not an offensive weapon, it is a defensive weapon, it is not against Russian missiles. It is against missiles coming potentially from the Middle East,” Pawel Zalewsky, Polish MP. Because you know, everyone in the Middle East is trying to plan some way to attack the Kingdom of Poland, it is all they can think about. Poland being the center of the universe. Of course it's aimed at Russia! What do you think? The US has already taken a swipe at Russia via Georgia, and for all the Russians who read this, there actually are a few Americans who know the truth. infowars.com for example. Not all us Americans watch Fox News. As for the Poles, well, nevermind. God help us!

Gregory 20 August, 2008, 18:58 The United States should worry about it's own borders. Bush looks the other way when the Mexican military crosses our border daily smuggling drugs and god knows what else. If anything Russia should be an inspiration to us.

Aryan Indian 20 August, 2008, 19:12 Few point in reply to other comments Alosha:It is Aimed at Russia Ofcourse, Germany Invaded Poland and went all the way to St.Petersberg, thats how WWII started, Russia helped Poland to gain independence from German. US is using their power all around the world, Not Russia, why US have 700 military bases around the world? and what is that showing? weakness or Super Power, I will let you decide on that. Damian: Russia asked for joint Tracking Radar system, Russia asked to put permenant russian people at radar station, Russia asked even to use Azabazan or Ukrainian Radar station which are already installed (only need may be upgrade) US refused all this, to track missile from Iran, why not put Missiles in Greece, Italy or Georgia and Romania, why wait for Iran missile come all the way to Poland before you try to hit it? You guys are as stupid as Most Americans and Europeans, You crooks sell the Lie and You stupid people buy it, You US and EU people lost the ability to think on your own lately, You make Neo-Cons think for you and you just believe whatever they tells you. You lost your Brain.

David 20 August, 2008, 20:09 The opportunity to have both USA and Russia working together was a good one as proposed by Russia in the first instance. The rejection by the States to have Russia involved as a partner throws a very suspicious light - AGAIN - on the States for their hard handed dealings in Europe and therefore one can only say 'YES - these missiles are aimed at Russia' Can Russia examine these missilies to ensure they do not contain nuclear warheads? I doubt it! So, not to be caught on the back foot, Russia has every right to prepare itself against a potential attack by the States. If the States wanted to post missiles in Alaska just where will they go? They cannot hit the major cities in the West of Russia and then the States will have another issue, which they don't want to create (at the moment) and that is to awaken a sleeping dragon. It's a joke that Bush wants missiles all along the border with Russia. Wait till Russia starts restricting gas and oil flow to Europe. The boot will be on the other foot. And as for Miliband (England). He made a mess of Zimbabwe when he had the opportunity to save that country from a humanitarian disaster - FAILED. An opportunity to denounce the humanitarian disaster of Sth Osettia committed by the Georgians - FAILED. His tounge has changed to the colour of Bushes shoes - whatever colour that is. The CIA must be disbanded as it is the CIA, in reality ruling the world and what has happened - FAILURE.

Dave 20 August, 2008, 20:35 I don't understand either side in this dispute. It seems the current American administration has no historical understanding about anything. They should have expected Russia to be upset at this. On the other hand I don't see why the Russian's are getting so upset about 10 intecptors. 10 Ten !!!!!!!!!! Seems like the world has gone crazy suddenly. Let's all hope we see tomorrow.

Seriously? 20 August, 2008, 20:46 Come off it. Those of you that believe we are setting up offensive capabilities in Poland are simply conspiracy theorists that have nothing better to do than foment chaos. Having family in Poland and here, I for one do not like the rhetoric being dispensed by Russia. However, I believe that being defensible versus defenseless wins every time. I am for the AMD and would willingly include more than 10 missiles and several more Patriot systems just because of the increased hype by Russia.

Zong 20 August, 2008, 20:57 Do not exxagerate. No one is interested in global war, but defence system help to mantain status quo status. Do not be angry on Poland, but Russia is simply unpredictable. War in Georgia showed how Russia should be treated . Something is wrong with the authorities in Russia . They simply want to isolate the country, and they do it well . Russia is on good way.to nowhere.

rockville 21 August, 2008, 00:55 It is hard to say at whom are they really aimed as technology behind them was proven to be raw and unreliable - at last for now. But speaking of policial easpects, it serves to show that Poland's leadership continues to suffer from Delusional disorder by invoking fears of the Russian Bear that is no longer in existance. They should realize they are walking on eggshells in more ways than one.

Snoepy 21 August, 2008, 02:07 We shouldn't be ignorant of the devises of the enemy.Remember this, that everything you see now happening has been programmed against moscow by US.This is a satanic manipulation by US to even say that,it is protecting herself from Iran and North Korea who have not got any missile that will reach Poland, not even mention US.This to me has been the most irrelevant and ignorant statement ever spoken.Bush has made it clear to georgia that, the conflict between her and Russia is of a long term.If America is so sure of threat from these countries, why can't US tell her so call allieds to go Iran and north korea and take those weapons,Instead of deceiving the whole world of their evil deeds.America has a very short time more to dominate,so they are using neighbours of emerging economies to disstabilize them.Russia should not sit and relax after these events.Russia should now realised that, those countries(Georgia and Ukraine ) have been her enemies for a long time. The US AMD has been thoroughly planned by US and her allieds(especially Britain) against Russia. But God is going to fight for Russia and that means Russia is going to be the winner.Every plan of the enemies of Russia shall be consumed by the fire of God,and every weapon created against her shall backfire.Russia must be ready to create an AMD without delay.I love you all.
