Thousands of children gathered in the central streets of Madrid to see the annual 'Three Wise Kings' procession. The three wise men paraded, accompanied by their 'pages' (those who run errands) ahead of the annual visit that they pay to Spanish children, for whom they are mythologised as leaving presents for, whilst the children sleep. One thing they did bring with them was 1,000 kilograms of sweets. The entourage handed out the candies amongst the crowds that awaited the parade for hours, despite the rain and cold temperature. The spectacle was cheered by musicians, acrobatics, a swan troupe and a group of camels in charge of carrying the children's presents. The Three Kings' day commemorates the visit of the Magi to the baby Jesus. The traditional parade was celebrated across the Spanish speaking world, with concurrent events running in other Spanish cities and in several Latin America countries.
