The breakaway republic of Abkhazia has frozen all contacts with Georgia and demanded the release of an official who was arrested and another who was allegedly kidnapped by Georgia last week.
Abkhazian leader, Sergey Bagapsh, said ties will only be restored after they are released. Bagapsh also accuses Georgia of attempting to disrupt local elections which are due this weekend in Abkhazia. The breakaway republic will attend next week's consultations over its conflict with Georgia in Geneva, as they are viewed as talks with the UN rather than Georgia itself.
