ACTA killed: MEPs destroy treaty in final vote

July 04, 2012 11:00

ACTA has received a knockout blow from the European Parliament as the majority of MEPs voted in favor of rejecting the controversial trade agreement, which critics say would protect copyright at the expense of freedom of speech on the Internet.

I'm from New Zealand, I can tell you that the majority of the country does not support ACTA. The "skynet" law was passed, however I doubt it will last long. NZ is only passing these laws because the US is leaning on us. We're a small country and can't put up much of a fight.

This is probably the best thing EU has ever accomplished, now if they only defended the truth as rightfully as they've defended freedom of speech, I would be truly amazed, and perhaps tip over in favor of this enormous body, I am now hinting at whistleblowers such as Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, that has revealed the truth but been persecuted in a modern day witch hunt, that lacks any comprehension in modern day history.

I wonder if the citizens of East Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, and countless others thought of the Red Army's version of "liberation"... . .................... .................... .................... .................... .................Con fused about years? 1945 was liberation, conversion to socialism later from 1948.

Red Army is responsible for 80% of European liberation.
Would that be the same Red Army that invaded and occupied most of Eastern Europe during the Cold War and kept it's citizens prisoner behind walls, barbed wire land mines, and machine guns?
I wonder if the citizens of East Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, and countless others thought of the Red Army's version of "liberation"...

what cool-aid have you been drinking? Human rights violations? I admit our past isn't perfect and their have been quit a few but they are the past. We don't:

Force people to have abortions if they have more than one child
Stone women for the "crime" of adultry
Murder rape victimes for the "crime of not being a vergin"
Girls are not barred from getting an education
People don't disappear in the middle of the night for speaking out against the government.
Slave ry and the slave trade is now illeagal (as I said we've come a long way and paid a high cost) but if you feel the way you do about America and the UK I strongly urge you to go visit the beaches of Normandy. Eruopean freedom was once bought at the cost of American and British blood.

Congratulation to all the corageous and brave men and women  who took it to the streets  to protest against ACTA and also congratulation to all those who voted against ACTA. However, the anti ACTA voters need to take a more proactive and vehement stance against it, by vehemently deno uncing those fascists  who  voted for ACTA , those  cowards who  abstained from voting and, especially,  those NAZIS  who designed It  to begin with.Thank you Europe!

Don't rush too fast, those people will not let it go so easily, they will strike back, very soon with a different approach... never trust a Scorpion! Already, like a cancer, they erode the free internet step by step, as Utube is doing lately whenever you try to access some video, most will be labelled: "This video is currently unavailable".... Why?Of course no explanation ! Maybe all videos will soon be "Classified" ......... So watch out and do not let your guards down.

To Linda: Jefferson also said:
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belong."
So, if you want *your* liberty back, stand up and do something about it.

What are these political toads up to now?

I doubt that they voted out of a sense of duty to their constituents.  Politicians never do that these days!

These very same people would pass this bill without as much as a blink of an eye if it was not for popular reaction. And do not worry, right now they are putting a little show for us, but the power behind ACTA will achieve it's aim anyway, just see what happened with USA's CISPA etc.

Amen!

But I doubt the lobbyists will stop at that. They love to "troll" bills until they get at least a partial acceptance.
