Anti-government rally continues in Lebanon

Published: 05 December, 2006, 09:18

In Lebanon, Hezbollah-led demonstrations are continuing. The Lebanese army has cordoned off Sunni and Shi'ite neighbourhoods in Beirut and sealed off main roads to the capital as protesters continue pushing for the government to resign.

The demonstrations have already claimed the life of one man who will be buried in Beirut on Tuesday. Shi'ite Muslim Ahmed Mahmoud was killed in a shooting which has heightened political and sectarian tension.

Despite the ongoing protests, Lebanese prime minister Fuad Saniora has vowed to stay in office.
