Why do they arrest the Russia students? I think that the Russia students might have legal documents in order to study at the Egypt. There might be some reasons rather than checking the I.D.

This is outrageous...I cannot imagine what I would do if this happened to my child in another country, where I could not help her. This is a vast insult to the Russian people, and Egypt should be ashamed.

I think Egyptian authorities did have good suspicion/intelligence to arrest them. I think they were right to suspect them as having ties to terrorism.

Pauline - your absolutely right! and the root problem is not just with Egypt, but with the majority of law enforcement around the world. The problem is that police have too many wide sweeping powers, to take people into custody, that are regulated by themselves. We need a return to basics here, and understand detention, is for something serious, not just a tool for the whim of any police force. I say it again, this is not just a problem in Egypt, it is nearly everywhere in the world. More sensible people like you need to start speaking out for everyone as you do, not waiting until it affects their life via their husband, son or daughter, at that point then it is too late.

@Count Cash and Pauline But the Muslim brotherhood is very active in recruiting militants at this university. What happens if it turns out they were planning a terrorist attack on Medvedev or Obama.

Johnx - The what if argument is the standard law enforcement, more powers for us please argument, any one can be a terrorist. We need to lock everyone up to protect everyone. Sorry I don't buy it, it is a slippery slope, that inevitably leads to opression, and yes if freedom means loosing Obama or Medvedev, or indeed one of my closest relatives, then so be it. That is far better, than us all sitting in prison cells to protect us! I prefer to remember great efforts in Stalingrad and in London during Bombings and fighting, to preserve freedom, rather than other totally counterproductive opressive anti terrorism regimes that want all the powers to lock everyone up for freedom sake. Also remember, there is no evidence I have read to say this is anymore than a visa check. It is just your creation at the moment, I take it, so as to apply terrorist legislation! No I am with Pauline 200%.

I agree with Pauline, it is the usual "anti-terror" stupidity. Surely a REAL terrorist would not stay in a known address, waiting unarmed for the police ... to arrest him! Real terrorists are NEVER unarmed, they have more weapons than the police and they are neither easy to find nor easy to arrest. They have very very secure hideouts. That some students are taken for terrorists reminds me of these movies with inspector Cluzo. I would laugh, but it is not that funny for the students themselves. I would advice to stay away from this country... Ergatis
