Belarus puts Russian missiles on shopping list

Iskander missiles could be deployed in Belarus, even if the U.S. doesn't put elements of an anti-missile shield in Eastern Europe.

Russia’s western neighbour Belarus may purchase short-range Iskander missiles from Moscow in order to build up its own defence shield.
Dmitry Medvedev says Russia would have no choice but to react should the US take the unilateral step of building missile bases in Eastern Europe. The President says such a response could include deploying Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad. However, he says
Russia is to lend Belarus US$ 2 billion to help it ride out its current economic difficulties. The first billion will be transferred by the end of the year with the rest to follow at the beginning of 2009.
