Moscow to host Mid-East conference

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says he hopes the issue of Palestinian unity will be resolved by next spring. At a meeting in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh , the Middle East Quartet of negotiators has supported holding a conference in Moscow in 2009.

The former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in Moscow to discuss peace in the Middle East. He has already met Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Moscow on his first visit to the Russian capital since becoming

He'll also meet Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for talks on how to push the Israeli-Palestinian peace process forward and how to provide financial aid to the Palestinian territories.

Blair was named Middle East Envoy a year ago, and works on behalf of the Middle East quartet, which includes Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union.

Russia approved his appointment after initial reservations over his close relationship with the U.S.
