Bulgaria: Socialists in the lead for European Parliament

According to exit polls, the ruling Socialists are in the lead in Bulgaria's first election for the European Parliament which saw a low turnout highlighting the frustration felt by many Bulgarians living with widespread corruption and poverty.
Bulgaria and neighbouring Romania joined the EU in January following a last-minute rush to reform Communist-era judiciary and state institutions.
