Car crash in North Caucasus claims 13 lives

Published: 26 December, 2006, 05:45

Thirteen people have been killed and another three seriously injured as a result of a crash in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. A rail cargo car and a minivan collided on the road from Mozdok to Vladikavkaz.

An explosion occurred shortly after the crash. Investigators believe a leak from a gas canister was the most likely cause of the explosion.

The injured have been taken to hospital.
