A Russian cargo ship with 17 crew members is lost in the East China Sea. The ‘Captain Uskov’ disappeared from radars en route to Hong Kong from the port of Nakhodka in Russia's Far East.

It was due to arrive on Thursday but the last radio contact was on Sunday.

A rescue ship is being sent to the last known location of the vessel.

Rescue coordinator Leonid Ivanichev told Russia Today a Japanese plane had failed to locate the ship.

“We asked our colleagues at Chinese and Japanese rescue centres for help. Japanese rescuers immediately sent a plane to the vessel’s last known location. It searched the area but failed to locate the vessel,” Ivanichev said.
