CSKA’s chances of winning this year’s Russian Premiership are in tatters after they were beaten 1-0 by their bitter rivals Spartak in a tense Moscow derby. An away win for Rubin on Sunday will see the title go to Kazan for the first time.
Russian sides Spartak Moscow and CSKA both saw action in the group stages of the UEFA cup on Thursday evening. It was a topsy-turvy night on the continent with Spartak losing at home and the Army Men of CSKA winning away.
Russia's national football team have reached their highest FIFA ranking since 1997. Guus Hiddink's charges now sit 8th – climbing up one position from last month.
