A fire brigade leader died from injuries he suffered while to extinguish a major blaze in Moscow’s east. His colleague remains in critical condition.

Artyom Oblomov died in ambulance as he was rushed to the hospital. The 27-year-old is survived by a wife and an infant daughter, The Emergencies Ministry reported.

The fire on Friday night engulfed an old administrative building in 1st Rizhsky Sideway, burning some 1,500 square meters worth of floors. It took three hours and sixteen fire crews including one operating a fire train to quash the blaze.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, although preliminary investigation points to a shortcut in electric mains.
