alex So, a network owned by General Electric is as invested with socialist voices as this site! But today the empire has been caught off guard and unprepared- all the lies on why ruthless dictators must be backed with money and weapons in the ME and the Muslim world have been becoming undone by a sudden surge of popular and sustained uprising on the heart of the Arab dictatorship. The Arab youth today do not feel the sense of shame and inferiority complex hammered on to their parents by Orientialist education political failure. These youth are in their tens of millions; they are savvy and fearless and Mubarak and or the next dictator preferred by Washington will not be able to restore the old status quo. The real fear here for the U.S is that Israel will be finally forced to make a meaningful peace deal with the Palestinians. This is something the U.S is impotent to do and here is clearly why the empire will fail to keep things under control.

I agree. Americans should keep their noses out of other people's business. It is all for the love and greed of money. So sad.

How could the west be so naive as to keep harping on democracy to happen in that part of the world?   Some people might be ready, but most are not. Whatever fragile democracy they may have could well be a disguise.

I believe that America, after this misbehavior and misdoing concerning this event in Egypt, has lost the hearts of the whole Egyptian people. The American responsibles and politicians again proved to the whole world that America of today is a good friend to the dictators and criminal leaders of the Middle East leaders and rulers. America, you proved for the thousandth time, that commerce is for you but politics is for British. You lost so much a lot this time, and your loss will effect on you for a long period this time. I believe this misdoing will enable a good foot for Iran in Egypt in the future. You are lossing you public friends day after day.

This doesn't look like one of those Western 'color revolutions'. This is a country that has had bread riots in the past two weeks. It has the social texture of  a classic pre revolutionary situation. Oppressive, corrupt, authoritarian economically incompetent government.  With a huge number of its people  living in  poverty. In two months the only question is likely to be why the revolution didn't occur sooner. What motivates the Western politicians intervention  is fear. The Muslim Brotherhood may reject violence but if this revolt fails those that lead the next uprising certainly won't.  Western leaders recognize that if the current regime survives it will be to their long run detriment.

Unfortunately I have become a bit skeptical hearing and reading about Mr Obama's statements. This comes about from the time when the news broke upon the world in 2008 of the collapse of the world economic system. He was quick to react, but not yet president. Then the Israeli attack and butchery in Gaza, he was silent, a deathly silence. It transpires later he supported the butchery. He promised the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He withdrew troops from Iraq and sent them to Afghanistan and vows to continue fighting, butchery of civilians. He purports to begin a mid-east peace process, which collapses due to Israeli intransigence. He will not say to Israel, stop! now! He continued to support Mubarak and his connivance with Israel to keep the gates shut to the Gaza Strip and the creation of a Warsaw Ghetto in the 21st century. Does he truly understand the Egyption people and what they really want. Yes, Mr Obama, this is democracy, the people of Egypt are saying with one voice, regardless of religious beliefs, we want government and leaders of our choice, not of others. They don,t want yours, but their democracy. If you were honest, Mr Obama, then you would tell Mubarak and his puppets to stand down, if not we stop all financial aid. But then I don.t believe any more that you are honest.

Barak is telling to Mubarak what to do! Must! Immediately! And hypocritical and shameless Yankees are keep talking about democracy!?... Democracy, is when people themselves decide what to do and how to run their country. In this case, though, Washington decides and tells!. And Neocons call it as "democracy in action". The massive flip-flopping could be observed in almost all US media. The worst part of it -- Americans still do not get, that what they do is evil. They just converted one more dictator, they installed earlier, from "people-loving-democ rat" to "dictator". This same was done with Saddam Hussein. The same -- wi th Asama Bin Laden. With Taliban. ... And Americans still think that they are right and everybody else is wrong... This is all so sickening and disgusting. It is like Washington is doing dirty laundry of its smelly cloth covered with blood in the public place. And doing it with the attitude that everybody around are fools and don't understand that is going on. Really, the political system in the US and its ideology as rotten (may be even more) than it was in the USSR.

tim, I do not want to put words in your mouth but according to you if the U.S/NATO the awe invoking dazzling high tech Blitzkreig had succeed in subdue the population in Afghanistan, those “poor Arabs” on the streets of Cairo today demanding the immediate departure of Hosni Mubarak would have been so terrified that they would not have dared to face their ruthless dictators with bravery and courage after decades of torture and other forms of pacification tactics? Of course, these are tactics used not only by dictators but also by colonialists against those they want to oppress and dominate. But history teaches us that these tactics did not win the day for the French in Algeria, nor did the secure the winning strategy for the Third Reich in the occupied Eastern Europe or the Soviet Union security apparatuses. The U.S/EU/Israel dependence on terror, torture and dictators in the Arab world is why today there are near total absence of U.S and EU flags being waved on Cairo’s main Liberation Square. However, despite their claim being the logical inheritors of the Holocaust legacy, American imperialists and the Zionists alike are openly showing their deep commitment to the Orientalist imperative that the use of force is the best way to engage with the Arabs- and that this racist orientalist imperative has guided the U.S foreign policies toward the Arab for many decades. That Arabs know only two ways of being in the world-being: domination by strong dictators or blind embrace of religious fundamentalism is why Obama, Hilary Clinton and EU leaders do not know how to respond the sudden eruption of pro democratic uprising in the Arab world.

That what we see in arb world is the result of US Army and NATO defeats in Iraq and Afganistan.   The western media interpreted the uprisings that the arabs are not anymore afraid of their dictator rulers although they are not anymore afraid of US and NATO military troops.

Whatever President Obama works out with the ruthless dictator of Egypt is too little too late for the United States Hegemony in the Arab world. As one discerning Al Jazeera commentator noticed one of the remarkable aspect of the current uprising in the Streets of Egypt and before that Tunis and in Yemen is the total absence of American flags, and EU symbols.. the fact the youth are leading these uprising means that Multi polar world is here and what we are witness in the clear absence of U.S and EU flags is that the Arab youth know who have backing up the dictators in the Arab world: The United States and its supine junior the European Union.. Obama is always calculating and he could restored a measure of respect for the U.S if he took the side of the pro democratic moment immediately.

For some reasons., two years into his Presidency, President Obama shows not only that he is as cynical as President GWB but that he great deal more sleek and therefore more dangerous. Some of us remember his hollow and cynical speech in Cairo in 2009. Today- he working hard undermining true democracy from taking hold in Egypt. Instead, what he is trying to do is to sacrifice Mubarak but save his dictatorial apparatuses. The more we see the real face of President Obama the more he looks different! His glittering eyes and cynical smiles..
