EU fear of GM food from US hampers historic trade deal

12.03.2014 15:08

An ‘enormous gulf’ has been exposed between the EU and the US through Europe’s reluctance to buy hormone meat or GM food from the US. Industry and labor groups voiced concern to EU and US negotiators that the globe’s biggest trade pact was under threat.

Stand firm EU. The US has nothing to export to the world but poison. Poison food, poison thoughts ,and a poison way of life.

GMO is the way for governments to kill their poor. Rich folks buy organic foods even with their costs 2 to 3 times more than GMO foods. Poor people can't afford to buy organic food, so they are the ones consuming these GMO foods in the U.S. E.U. should stand firm and not accept these poisons, or fracking.

Oh well, Ireland is busy developing GM food for its U.S. investors. Just waiting for the U.S./E.U. trade deal to get signed.
Give it another year and the deal will be done between the E.U. elite and the U.S. Monsanto groups.

Will the EU have what it takes to stand up to the US? Why must we always fight tooth and nail for the right to lead a healthy life?

Gay is OK, but only in the west...we in the east prefer doing our women and eating food as God gave it to us...Raw, small and healthy... [/quote]
Many of us still cry out that sodomy is wrong but we are labeled as haters. For this reason alone I believe God will soon judge my country. We are spiritually and financially on a path of destruction. I pray and prepare and hope for the best.

...and Americans wonder why our cancer and obesity rates are skyrocketing. Our produce is genetically modified now and our meats and milk have been injected with extra hormones. I stick to deer meat and my own home grown fruits and vegetables. I'm glad I'm just a country gal ;)

There is enough food for everyone`s Needs but not for everyone`s Greed. Humans can sustain themselves if instead of money spent on weapons was spent on organic farming . We are already Obese as a nation, we are consuming and overproducing more than what we actually need. What we throw away and waste alone could feed the poor and homeless. All Unnatural methods come at a very high price on our health . Ban all these corporations Monsanto are only interested in making money .

My understanding is that food has been altered only in the sense that it was "hybrid" meaning that one variety was crossed with another variety. GMO is a completely different animal in that pesticides are ingrained into them. Two completely different process and it is misleading to say that food has been GMO'ed for years. Don't twist it....

19 member states objected to the Commission proposal in an EU Council vote, while five countries (Estonia, Finland, Spain, Sweden and the UK) voted in favour and four (Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany and Portugal) abstained.

The elites who would abstain/approv e GMO must go. To those in the UK with the upcoming parliamentary elections, political regicide needs to be committed. If Owen Patterson stands in your constituency, ensure he doesn't win. Do not vote for him. Instead lobby like crazy those who oppose this crazy tech.

There is a line i am constantly reminded when confronted by situations like this. And despite it being from a cheap SF-show, i think its straight to the point:

&quo t;I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price."

If there was no such thing as GM, then the human population would no longer be able to support itself. Organics is not sustainable for all, unless we change our lavish lifestyles and conform to a resource based economy. So, when are you going to change that?!

Well, Eduardo
If you feel that GM foods are "safe," why don't you keep eating it and see how your health is in a few years. It sounds like you have been paid by Mosanto to spew such verbal diarrhetic on here.

Jed 13.03.2014 09:59

Monsanto is poisoning the planet with the GM garbage...that's what it is garbage..even pigs and other animals will not eat GM corn and soy products..they know it will kill them..for those proponents of this garbage, you better research it and see there is pesticides genes included in the vegetable gene, as well as animal protein included..so if you think you are eating corn or tomato, you are actually eating pesticide, and animal protein...no wonder it tastes like garbage..bon appetite

Robert Mould 13.03.2014 09:54

Monsanto going to sign a new deal with Ukraine unelected government, back door to EU food supply. Good luck for supporting a coup

EU please do not buy GM food - it causes cancer. NO GM food and NO fluoride in water!

Natasha, If you are fooled into buying organic corn, then you should know that corn has been GM'd for the last several hundreds of years. There is nothing wrong with GM food. There is more wrong with fear of buying something which causes stress hormones to release and then cancer. Your mind can manipulate the smallest of small particles. What you fear in, will kill you.
