Hundreds of cars with white ribbons have made a full circle around the ring road in Moscow to attract more people to the opposition march in support of Fair Elections, scheduled for February 4.

The “White Ring” rally began on Sunday at 14:00 pm Moscow time. Lasting for three hours, it gathered between 1,000 and 5,000 cars, the opposition says. Police counted only 300 cars, reports RIA Novosti news agency.

White ribbons, white balloons and white mascots – anything white fitted to decorate the cars for the rally. The drivers handed out several hundred stickers which read “For fair elections” and “My vote has been stolen.”

Russian Twitter was split between elated comments from the rally’s participants, and angry messages from drivers stuck in traffic jams caused by the event.

Though the run had not been sanctioned by Moscow authorities, police said they would not interfere if the participants did not halt traffic along the Sadovoye belt street. No special incidents were reported.

The rally was called by the Voters’ League, which sprang into being after thousands of Moscow citizens protested the results of the parliamentary election in December. The poll brought victory to the United Russia party associated with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev. Protesters question the ballot count, and want to ensure the upcoming presidential poll will not involve vote rigging.

The White Ring car (and some pedestrians) protest just keeps the pot bubbling a bit while planning for the 4 Feb demo. Putin has little to fear from these Range Rover activists, but he should be concerned (and confidentially probably is) that these few protesters are actually rather important to running the economy and represent the part of Russian society most liable to emigrate elsewhere with their  knowledge and abilities. Putin, of course, is a stalwart anti-Communist, anti-Stalinist, and anti-Nationalist. But otherwise probably looking forward to retiring to Sochi with his millions and his girlfriend.

It seems the white ( Бѣлое движенiе/Бе лое движение)&nb sp;Russians are active again after all these years. And the purpose of all this is to what? Make Russia an economic slave with neoliberal economic policies?Next they'll be calling for the reimposing of the Romanov dynasty.Yes they were ballot stuffing, but not throughout all of russia and enough to change the elections. If United Russia wanted to steal ballot votes, there was a more legal way to do it, but they did not.The whole thing was nothing more than a covert operation. The opposition lost the vote it was not stolen. And because of the whims of a few (the opposition) immature youths, they are willing to tear their country apart and bring bloodshed to their countrymen (comrades), all for neo-liberal economic comforts? What kind of Russia are they (opposition) trying to create?

Johann Schumacher Do you mean the “freedom” deserved by those in “the East” if and when the ideology of new living space in the East for Aryan race succeeds? What is shocking is how well this ideology is alive thriving today.
