Pavel Baskakov from the Russian Travel Services Union told RT about the problems which are now preventing St. Peterburg from gaining more popularity among tourists.
“The city is not fulfilling its potential now. Last year we had around 4.5 million visitors, from which 2.5 million came from abroad and two million were Russian citizens. Foreign tourism is developing slowly because of different reasons. First of all, it's a visa problem. Also, there are not very many flights to the city. Accommodation in the northern capital is rather expensive,” Baskakov said.
