Russian rescue workers have successfully evacuated some 675 fishermen from an ice floe that broke away from the island of Sakhalin in the country’s Far East.

Emergency services say none of those rescued require medical assistance. Two helicopters and several vessels took part in the rescue operation.

At about 12:00 pm local time, rescuers received information that a large ice floe had broken off the coast, taking several hundreds of people with it into the open sea.

By the time the rescue operation started, the float was about a half a kilometer away from the island.

We'll be seeing a lot more of this type of stuff in the near future as the ice sheets begin to break free and help the planet sweat us off.  Too bad we put all of the nuke plants at sea level.  Now, even the kemosynthetic life foams in the bottom of the oceans will be affected.  Lets hope they adapt, survive, crawl outta there and evolve into creatures that can spot propaganda from a mile away so we don't have to go thru all of this again.

Congratulations to all the people involved in saving the fishermen. This is the sort of news that we should all be glad to read.

The whitehouse would have done a cost analasis on the victims potenti al to fund the rescue team before deciding if to bother with a rescue attempt.
You' re giving a bad reputation to Americans! With your bad spelling and grammar it's to bad we can't send you out on an Ice Trap! The U.S. would not do an analysis on the rescue you moron! We spend money saving non-American citizens! Remember the IRANIAN FISHERMAN our military scooped out of the ocean a couple months ago! WAKE UP!----------------- -------------------- -------------------- ---------------You are wrong Melissa, the only thing America does for free is kill people. As for a bad reputation, America has had one for a very long time.
Congrats to the Russian rescue services for a job well done.
