Ex-terrorist network? ‘Facebook’ for former extremists
April 27, 2012 19:32
From Islamic Jihadists to neo-Nazis, over a thousand former extremists and their victims are connecting online to tackle terrorism via the Google-supported social network Against Violent Extremism (AVE).

did the nazis flew to russia after ww2? sometimes it seems RT is a plattform for nazis, jew-haters, america-haters and rassists (when reading the comments). I wonder why RT is publishing those comments.
Bringing together victims of crime and perpetrators is not new. It sounds similar to what is being undertaken in N.Ireland following years of conflict. In the end getting people talking is better than having them harm each other. I think it was Winston Churchill who said: 'Jaw Jaw is better than War War'.
@UrWorstNightMare: You do not seem to understand that Amerikaner's statement was not directed against the article but against Moshe Goldstein's comment. As for freedom of speech. If you speak your mind freely and critically on e.g. immigration publicly your career is in many cases severely threatened. You have from a certain social level upwards the obligation to be politically correct. Otherwise you are destroyed by the media and even by other colleagues etc. who don't want to be associated with you because they saw what happened to others with similar views and want to maintain their own position. These media campaigns tend to not neccessarily shine a positive light on the person in question. He is portrayed as evil or a nazi and the like. This of course sets standards for all sections of society. They learn by this what kind of behaviour/speech is acceptable. This public punishment is basically a tool of education which has the goal of producing citizens who self censor their speech and in many cases even their thinking. They kind of feel that those thoughts they might sometimes have are evil and they know if they express them there will be punishment. It is a very effective and very well hidden way of censorship. Then of course there's the more obvious way of censorship. Publications critical to the prevailing picture of WWII for example are basically forbidden in some European countries. And if you speak your mind too freely about the event with a capital H you go to jail in many European countries if your opinion is not acceptable. What those AVE activists do is certainly okay. As long as they fight only violence and not opinions that's fine. Then again, from what I've experienced there are many more violent non-jihadist immigrants around than violent nazis. In fact I have never in my life actually seen a skinhead such as the one in the picture above, only on pictures and in the TV. I think the problem with violent nazis is blown out of proportion. The real problem they pose is probably their rather non-capitalistic, anti-immigration, anti-Western, pro-family, pro-tradition worldview.

Amerikaner Isn't what this organization doing too, practicing their freedom of speech by criticizing against extremism ? You said the following "You don't have to agree with people's speech, you only have to agree that they have the right to speak what they wish and you can criticize or speak back, but to seriously suggest that speaking one's mind is a crime is basically a crime itself and the first step towards dictatorship. " I believe your statement SOMEWHAT makes you a dictator too. Also, i'm pretty sure they didn't say "speaking one's mind is a crime". They are simply gathering all former extremists via social media, so that they can make the former extremists share their critical thoughts against extremism to younger adults which MAY reduce hatred within our society. I believe they too (the organization) are performing they're freedom of speech rightfully. They agreed that the current extremist has the right to speak what they wish, and the organization can criticize or speak back to 'ANYONE'. As you said earlier "you only have to agree that they have the right to speak what they wish and you can criticize or speak back". Some people love to bring up the "Freedom of speech" idea but when they try to back it up, they contradict it. I hate that.
There are limits to everything, including freedom of speech. Allowing racism in public places is at the very least a nuisance, but in most cases directly damages democracy. Same goes for nationalism, or any other doctrine that tries to tell you that you are better than "them". But it isn't even about that, people seem to be putting right-wing extremists (angry young psychopathic but severely retarded men) in the same category as islamic extremists (many of them well educated, but lost their families and/or living in miserable conditions, due to the above extremists)
G et rid of the right-wing extremists and ALL extremists lose their cause.
More Ameri-Nazi Propaganda. First ly, Google and the USA have no legal authority in any country. Secondly - what is wrong with the Nazis? They have more culture and morals than any American person I have ever met - and I would certainly trust a Nazi any day over an American! As for Google, they are seriously carry out some very nasty spying in a lot of countries. Google and Facebook to combat Nazis? Yeah right. They can't even find the people that blew up WTC7 - the World Trade Building that fell over by itself!! Who needs terrorists when there is the US government blowing up their own buildings?
"The sooner we can remove all right wing and hate speech extremists to FEMA camps the better ."
Expressing one's first amendment rights is extremism? Are you some kind of troll, or are you really that ignorant? You don't have to agree with people's speech, you only have to agree that they have the right to speak what they wish and you can criticize or speak back, but to seriously suggest that speaking one's mind is a crime is basically a crime itself and the first step towards dictatorship. I had to laugh at how you're talking about throwing people in camps when your name (Moshe) is Jewish. Irony is the spice of life.
