French FM to observe EU monitors in Georgia

The French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, is in Georgia to inspect the EU monitoring mission on the South Ossetian border. He will travel to the city of Gori on Friday to observe the work of the European monitors on the ground.
The minister will visit the buffer zone where Russian peacekeeping troops completed their withdrawal on Wednesday. He will assess whether the Sarkozy-Medvedev peace plan is being fully implemented.
According to the agreement, the European observers are patrolling the area having replaced Russian peacekeepers.
Kouchner is also expected to meet with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili during his one-day visit.
