Donald Rumsfeld under Bush had the CIA develop Stuxnet under than code name, Olympic Games.  The Stuxnet worm originally had 4 security doors that was suppose to keep it localized to Iran's U238 enrichment network. The network managed the speed of 1,000 or more centrifuges which all went nuts. The clowns in Israel removed the 4 security doors unleashing the worm and eventually giving Iran the code to enable them to infect the U.S. infrastructure and a clear justification for cyber war. Iran was using a bootleg copy of software to controls the centrifuges.  One control was a date stamp that stopped the software from working.  Iran backdated the machines to enable the software.  The U.S. put a date stamp as one of the security features.  The software geniuses in Israel removed it.    Obama never stopped this.  So both the U.S. and Israel are responsible for the beginning of a cyber war.  The U.S. didn't know Israel removed the security until it infected more than the targeted network.

With Stuxnet lost in the 'wild', is there not a real risk that a nuclear power plant, or missile silo somewhere could malfunction with deadly result due to some unseen effect caused by this virus?

The targeted devices are all similar technology developed by interconnected companies so infections could develop along surprising vectors. Creating such things is monstrous folly.

If I were a globalist and had a cure for cancer I would be purposely collapsing reactor no 4 in Japan. It would give me every excuse I need to institute martial law in America, siezing private property in the Eastern half claiming I need to relocate the western half due to radiation exposure, also I could then plead with Russia to return several islands to my pet monkeys in Japan, adding to my strategic advantage.
